Blurb

The air inside the car crackled with an unspoken tension, heavy and electric. Mr. Lucas kept his eyes fixed on the road, a silent guardian of secrets, while I sat in the backseat beside Mr. Sage, who seemed utterly absorbed in the glow of his phone screen. He exuded an air of indifference, as if my presence barely registered.

I leaned back against the plush seat, curiosity and frustration bubbling over. “Can you stop tormenting me?” I challenged, my voice laced with defiance. “You know you can’t control everything.”

In a heartbeat, he turned, his gaze sharp and predatory, like a hawk eyeing its prey. Leaning forward, a wicked glimmer sparked in his eyes. “Watch me. Especially when it comes to you,” he replied, his confidence wrapping around his words like silk.

The statement sent a shiver down my spine, igniting a dance of butterflies in my stomach. “You always claim you don’t do love…” I started, feeling the weight of vulnerability creep in.

He interrupted me, his voice low and firm. “I don’t. Choose your words carefully,” he shot back, a darkness flickering across his features.

Every heartbeat felt like a dagger to the heart, and I fought to conceal the turmoil brewing inside me. “Good. I don’t want love from you either,” I declared, attempting to veil the truth beneath a mask of bravado.

He leaned in closer, the heat radiating from him causing my breath to hitch. The space between us narrowed, the charged atmosphere almost palpable. “Liar,” he whispered, each syllable a seductive caress that sent my mind spiraling.

I grasped at my defiance, pushing against his chest with my hands. “You can’t read my thoughts, so don’t presume,” I said, though my voice trembled. His presence was intoxicating, and my hands felt powerless against his unwavering hold.

In a swift, mesmerizing motion, he caught my wrists, pinning them above my head against the cool window of the car. The world outside faded into oblivion as his piercing gaze bore into mine, igniting a wildfire of chaotic emotions. I feared I might lose myself, swept away in the intensity of the moment.

Desperate to break the spell, I turned to Mr. Lucas. “Could you please stop the car?” I pleaded, though the words tasted faint and distant, lost in the magnetic pull between us. Mr. Sage’s expression shifted into a bemused smile, one I had never witnessed before, a blend of mischief and something deeper.

“You think you can just walk away whenever you want?” he teased, the words dripping with a confidence that made my heart race.

With a smirk that barely concealed the fire inside me, I shot back, “Watch me,” twisting my hands from his grasp, fueled by a mix of anger and desire.

Yet, I was met with a sudden shift in his demeanor; his jaw tightened, and the teasing smile evaporated, replaced by a smoldering intensity. Leaning in, his lips brushed against my ear. “Not from me, never from me,” he breathed, sending shivers of anticipation coursing through my veins.

I was on the brink of losing myself, ready to succumb to the wild emotions that swirled around us. “Mr. Sage, let me...” But my protest barely escaped my lips before he claimed me, capturing my mouth with an aggressive kiss that was both possessive and electrifying.

Rise and shine (sort of )
My alarm blared to life, jolting me out of a sleep-deprived haze like a rude awakening from a dream. I burrowed deeper into my blankets, reluctant to face the day's chaos. But my adorable bunny snuggled beside me, a comforting presence that momentarily distracted me from the impending doom of morning. Then, a loud knock, more like a determined battering ram, shook my door, and I knew my mom was on a mission. "Open up! Do you know what time it is?" she yelled, her voice piercing through the door like a dagger. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, still groggy, and muttered, "Mom, I'm coming! Just give me a sec to get myself together. You don't want me looking like a hot mess, do you?" My mom's response was a stern warning, but my dad's calm voice intervened, "Honey, let's not stress her out. I'll drive her to work, she'll be fine." My mom's muttered reply was lost in the chaos, but I knew she loved me despite her tough exterior, a love-hate relationship, really. As I rushed through my morning routine, a whirlwind ten-second bath, slapping on some face cream, and throwing on my clothes, I felt like a ticking time bomb. No makeup for me, I'm a natural beauty (or so I claim ). I grabbed my bag and rushed downstairs, where my brother Jason was leisurely enjoying breakfast, oblivious to my panic. Score! I'm not that late after all. "Dad, I'm off! Can you please take me to work? I don't have time for the bus," I yelled, already halfway out the door. But my mom wasn't having it. "Eat something before you go!" she ordered, like a drill sergeant. I snatched a pancake and stuffed it into my mouth, earning a warning from my dad: "Careful, sweetie, don't choke!" I mumbled a reply, already escaping into the morning chaos. As I rushed out the door, my brother's parting shot was classic: "Bye, sissy! See you when I see you!" I rolled my eyes good-naturedly, feeling like I was fleeing a war zone. With my mom's likely impending lecture and Jason's antics, I was ready to escape into my safe spaces, work and my room. Only there could I find some peace. But as the saying goes, "nothing lasts forever." I could only hope my serenity would stick around.
