The whispers and stares finally quietened, I guess the rumors finally died down. I was at my table in class, when a girl walked up to me.
"Jinny right?" She had short brown hair with purple highlights, pink full lips and a nose ring
"Yeah"
"Hi, I'm Rebecca," smiling, she stretched out her hand
"Nice to meet you" I smiled back, taking her hand
"Are you new here?"
"Nope"
"How come I haven't seen you around though?"
"Oh I just resumed. I was on a long ass holiday"
"Well, it's really nice to meet you"
"Same here"
We talked after that, we just seemed to click, it was as if I had known her for a very long time. She was funny and relatable and with her the background seemed to peel away, and it was just us.
I hadn't realised how much time had passed, until I heard the bell ring
"s**t, I'm gonna be late for class" I started packing my books, "I have physics right now, you?"
"I'm free"
"OK, so I'll see you later?"
"Yeah"
I hurriedly rushed out of class when I bumped into something hard, except it grunted. I pushed away from the thing when I realised I was holding a guy's chest. Oh
"I'm so sorry" I tries running past him, but he caught my arm, and forcefully spinned me around so we could face each other
"Look, I'm really sorry, ai wasn't looking where I was going. I'm in a rush, so if you wouldn't mind..." I pointedly looked at where he held my arm
"Jinny?" He looked at me as if he saw a ghost
"Yeah?" I looked at him expectantly "do you know me?"
"Who doesn't know you?"
"Meaning?"
"Nothing, sorry, ummm....you should get going and about earlier it's alright" he let go and quickly walked away from me. I wanted to call out his name but, I didn't know it, so I resumed my walk back to class.
Upon reaching there I saw, Jemma making out with a guy, that Levi guy that joined us the table that day. I felt offended, angry even, but why?
I walked into the class and cleared my throat, Jemma quickly pushed away y from him and looked at me sheepishly, but there was something else in her eyes, guilt?
"Hey, what are you doing here?"
"I have class here."
"Oh didn't you hear? The class got cancelled"
"Oh" so all my running and rushing was in vain "ok, well let me not get in the way anymore, ya'll can continue" I said my voice tight. I made my way to the rest room and splashed some water on my face. Why was I feeling so offended, what was my business what they were doing. It's their relationship not mine. So why was I so angry?
I was at my locker when Rebecca walked up to me
"Hey Rebecca"
"Yo, that reminds me, call me Becca, it's way shorter than Rebecca also that what my friends call me"
I smiled "alright Becca"
"Is Jinny short for anything?"
"I don't know" she looked at me like I was crazy "I don't remember, I lost my memories and my family just calls me Jinny, it never really occurred to me to ask. But thank you I will"
"Ok, but if I may...how did you lose your memory?"
"Ummm, I fell."
"You fell?"
"It's embarrassing I know"
"No, it's not that, are you sure?"
"According to what my family told me"
"No offense but you believe them?"
So I wasn't the only one that thought the story was near fetched, is that even correct?
"No. But it's the only thing that I've got to go on. I can't ask people because a family member is always with me whenever I leave the house, and if you haven’t noticed you're the only who yalks to me in this whole school. Even the teachers refuse to look me in the eye"
"I'm sorry"
"It’s fine, I've actually gotten over it"
"Yeah and if you haven’t just remember, that people are bitches and you don't need them" I laughed and it felt good.
I was studying in my room, when I a knock came
"Come in"
Jemma poked her head into my room "hey Jin, how are ya?"
"Hey, I'm good"
She looked reluctant and scared "ummm... about today..." she trailed off
"today?" Oh when I walked in on her makeout session "oh don't worry about, I'm not gonna tell a soul"
"Thanks but that's not why I'm here"
I frowned, what's wrong? Did he do something to you? Cause I might just become a ball buster"
She laughed "no ummm...pls don't be mad"
"What's wrong Jemma?"
"You and Levi, used to date" oh so that explains why I was so mad "but you two broke up a long time ago. It's just I was going through a rough time last year and he was there for me and we fell for each other and I didn'twant to date him becauseyou know, you're my sisterand all, but today-"
"Stop" she flinched, ok maybe I said that a little too harshly "look I'm not mad" lie "if we broke up, then you don't need to feel bad"
"But girl code"
"Screw it. I'm fine really" second lie "ho have fun and live your life and kiss all the boys you wanna, besides I don't even remember dating him" I plastered on a smile
"Ok thank you" she nodded " I'm glad that I told you, I just felt really bad"
"It’s fine" she turned to leave
"oh that reminds me" I called out " Is my full name Jinny or..."
"Oh no it's Genevieve. Jinny for short"
Genevieve. It was so beautiful
"Is yours just Jemma?"
"Yeah, mum and dad renamed me afte4 I got here"
"Really? What was your name before?
"Beatrice. And I hated that name"
"Why we could've called you Bea"
"Oh my god no."
We laughed
"So come here tell me about you and Levi's magical love story" she grinned from ear to hear and ran to my bed. We chatted all night long.
