"Maeve, pls come. I'm begging you, it's my 18th birthday" I said

"I don't know Jinny, my parents they..."

"Come on your parents know me and love me,"

"It doesn't matter Jinny. My parents and yours are two completely different. You know how they are, so pious and religious that I hardly go out and to a party at that? They'd go for confession every day through out the year"

I laughed "unless you don't tell them that it's a party" I suggested

"You mean lie to them?" I cackled "no way, trust me when I tell you that They'd find out, I don't know how they do it but I think they have people watching me"

"So what now, my BestFriend isn't gonna be there for my own birthday?"

"Hey I'll root for you and send you gifts"

"No it's unacceptable you have to be there, same way I'm gonna be there for you. You know what we're gonna have to do something"

"What?"

"We're gonna have to convince them"

"How? Didn’t you hear me? I'm living with hard headed fanatics over here"

"My parents, my brothers they can speak to yours"

"You think that's gonna work,?"

"with a lot of begging and reassurance they're gonna have to budge right?"

"You'd be surprised, you act as if you don't know them."

"Yeah, but I've never invited you for a party before"

"That's because you've never had parties before, and I'm not discouraging you to not throw one, but I think you're gonna have to get use to the fact that I'm not gonna be there this year J." She looked away "I'm really sorry"

"It’s fine, you know I’m not mad at you"

"Hey but look on the bright side, your hunka hunka's gonna be there"

"Hunk hunk? Who the hell still says that Maeve" I laughed throwing my pillow at her.

"But it's true, he is a piece of cake that I'd want take a bite out of, if I weren't gay that is."

"Yeah, but Levi is hot" and that was no lie, Levi Gunner's level of hotness was just on a whole other level, well I guess it ran in the family of wealthy hot actors and actresses

"Hunk-a hunk-a" she said laying emphasis to the K and A

"Can you stop, like seriously stop" I giggled

"I'm so glad that you guys are together" she smiled wickedly " but let be known that if he ever hurts you, I'm gonna rip off him balls"

"And I will give you my blessing"

"Of course you will whether you like it or not" We laughed again. I loved Maeve having her around made everything so much easier 💖

"Hey what time is it?" She asked after a while"

"Ummm..." I reached out for my phone "5:15

"Shoot, s**t I got to go" she bounced from my bed gathering her stuff that we're littered every where on the ground

"What's wrong?"

"My dad's supposed to take us to a sermon, it starts by 6 and I need to get ready" she tossed her books, Pens and calculator in her bag

"But you look -"

"I need to wear a dress"

"Right I keep forgetting"

"That's because your parents aren't assholes" She rushed to put on her shoes

"Oh come on, don't say that"

"I know, I know they love me and s**t but sometimes they make my life so....ugh" I smiled.

Finally her chaos had ended "Anyway, bye babe" she kissed me on my cheek then practically flew out"

"Enjoy your sermon" I yelled

"f**k you" she yelled back and I laughed again, lying back down on my bed.

"f**k this" Maeve slammed her locker hard, the sound echoing through the school hallway "they were so mad that I came hone yesterday that they took my phone and reduces curfew. Guess what? look who's the new 17 year old in town with a 6 o'clock curfew"

"You're kidding" I said genuinely surprised

"Nope, from 8 o'clock to 6 b***h. My life just keeps getting better and better"

"I'm so sorry"

"Why? It's not your fault, I forgot and they gave me that ridiculous ass punishment"

"Why are they so strict?"

"Religious fanatics babe. They believe in piousness and purity"

"Well thank God that they don't know about your belly piercing then"

"Thank God honestly, you remember that time I wore those magnetic earrings, I swear I saw my mum's soul leave her body"

I chuckled " So with this there's no chance of you coming?"

"Sweetheart there was never a chance" she said with finality "unless a miracle happens, then I'd call that a miracle of yhe sun"

"A what?"

"Never mind, a birthday miracle rather"

The bell rang

"OK I've got physics"

"And I've got art"

"Alright see ya"

"Bye b***h" I said

She flipped me off without looking back

"Hey Mama, how are ya?" I asked my mum. I was glad I caught her at a good time, though she was on her laptop doing work but she was always happy doing work

"Busy" she said without looking up

"I can see that but like, how are ya?"

She finally looked up "good" she squinted her eyes at me "what do you want?"

I sighed "it's nothing much actually, it's just" how was I going to put this " Mum I need Maeve to be at my party"

"Oh no absolutely not"

"Mum please I held onto her hand"

"Overbearing that family can be. To the point that two of theor children got married and moved half way across the world"

"Mum please I need her there"

"You know it would be very easy for her to be there if she didn't have assholes for parents"

"That's exactly what she said"

"See even the kid knows" she put her arms out in an I give up motion "Did you know that even today when I went over to church for a meeting she was bragging about how she and her husband punished her for being late by reducing her curfew, and was side eyeing while doing it. I swear I wish I could just time travel her back to the medieval ages, cause that’s where she belongs"

I pinched my nose bridge "Don't say that, that's not right it's someone's mother"

"Well if I can't say it outsidethen I'll say it in the comfort of my home. That woman and her husband? They need a lesson on dial back 101"

"Mum I'm begging"

"Sweetheart I'm sorry, you know that I love Maeve but I cannot that vile creature she calls a mother. She already thinks this family's unholy because what? You wear mini skirts it's called being open minded! If she even catches a whiff of alcohol on her daughter's body she start a rumour about this family, and you know how gossip spreads like wildfire around here, especially if it's coming from her, those church women worship oohing-and-ahhing anytime she walks

"I think you're just using this as a session to rant"

"Of course I'm using this as session to rant! I can just imagine, she'd think 18th birthday then her sin radar goes off. And maybe she thinks you started drinking when you were 14"

I quickly looked away and averted my eyes but my mum caught it

"Excuse you young lady, when did you start drinking?"

"When I was 16 like every normal teenager"

"Good. I hope you don't do drugs"

"Oh no that's a no go area for me" and it was the truth, I could down a whole bottle of whiskey but never go near cigarette smoke.

Just then my dad walked in "hey honey, how are you?" He kissed my mum's head. Honestly I loved their romance you would think that it would've faded over time like most people but they keep theirs alive and runnin'. I want to be in love like they are some day

"I'm good"

"Hey sweetheart how was your day?"

"It was good thanks." He picked up the jug and poured himself water into the cup on the table, then a thought suddenly popped into my head all of a sudden "Hey umm...dad"

"Mmmm" he answered with a mouth full of water

"I want Maeve at my party"

"Ugh not this again didn't you just listen listen to my five minute rant?"

My dad chuckled without humour "honey that's almost gonna be near impossible if not impossible"

"Why not? We just need to reassure them that the party's gonna be clean?"

"Will the party be clean?"

"Come on dad"

"Honey I'd love to aid you in this, but Ruby Gallagher can and will see through your lies, she's either got and Angel or a lie detector within her sonewhere"

"Pls dad"

"Look honey if I could I would and I really don't want to. That woman should be in a convent in the medieval ages, and if I could ship her there believe me I would." My mum gave me a smug look "So I honestly don't think that her daughter's gonna be going to a party anytime soon."

"So that's it. My BestFriend isn't gonna be there the night I become an adult" I gave up slowly rising

My mum sighed "ok fine, we'll go over there tommorow and try to convince them ok?"

"Ok" I laughed giddy with happiness I hugged my parents

"But you are coming with us"

"Ok" This was going to be alright. Wasn't it?

"Please Mrs Gallagher, please?"

"Absolutely not! Parties lead to sin. And your turning 18, just imagine the kind of things that will go on there, drinking, doing drugs, fornication"

"Ruby don't you think you're going a little over board with that?" My dad's said

"How am I wrong?"

"Yes" My parents said simultaneously

""Ruby you've known Jinny since she was six, you know that she's a good kid, don't do this, just let Maeve come"

"But I don’t want-"

"There'll be adult supervision I promise you" My dad's cut her off

"Sweetie, maybe we should just let Maeve go. She's been to Jinny's birthday every year, why stop her know? And I know that Jinny's gonna be there for hers"

"I just..."

"Come on honey, she's growing up, you've got to start treating her like an adult"

"Fine, but Absolutely no drinking whatsoever, got it?"

"Yes, Mrs. Gallagher thank you so much"

"Thank you Ruby" My mum said

The front door swung open and Maeve walked in from choir practice

"Hey mum, hey dad, I'm ba..." she looked up "ck" she looked at me first then my parents, then hers "what's going on here?"

"Do you have a dress to wear for this weekend honey?" Her mum asked

"What?"

"Well didn't you hear? You're going for your BestFriend's party on Saturday

"Oh my God, are you serious?" She grinned

"Do not call the Lord's name in vain" her dad said

"Sorry" she looked at me "are you serious?"

"Yeah" I nodded

"Oh my..." she looked at her dad "thank you, thank you so much

"Don't thank us, thank them" her mum gestured to us

She practically ran to me and was giggling " Thank you Mr and Mrs Carlile"

"No problem love" my mum said

"And thank you" she looked at me "thank you so much" she gave me the biggest near hug

" you're welcome. Now you get to watch me become and adult"

"Yeah b..." she stopped looking around "bestie!"

"And your curfew can be extended to 10 pm, just for that night" her dad added

"Are you serious? Maeve and her mum said together

"Yeah" he looked at Ruby while saying that

Reluctantly she agreed "fine yes"

"Thank you so much, I love you both"

Her mum smiled half-heartedly

The music pulsed through the house as guests started trickling in. My parents left me the house for the weekend, I know they said that there would be adult supervision but technically I was turning an adult tonight so...

A bunch of my friends walked in, I would call them more of acquaintances though, then Levi's who gave me a beautiful necklace, then some of his friends. The point is the house was packed.

My sister descended from the steps and not long after, Maeve came in, and she looked gorgeous: she wore a skin tight black dress which accentuated her curves and sheer panty hoes and a black cardigan to cover up the front, her hair was packed into cute buns and her makeup was simple but perfect on her. In all honesty I don't even know how she got past her parents

"Hey birthday girl, you look amazingly gorgeous"

"Thank you" and I did, I wore my favourite shorts pink dress, dyed my hair pink also, wore a waist chain to complement the dress and my makeup was giving smokey siren. My parents bought me the new Swarovski set featuring Arianna Grande and I loved it, so I wore it.

"As do you! How the hell did you get pst your parents in that dress?"

"Oh they were trying to make a baby in their room so" she shrugged

"What?"

"Yeah I guess now that they know that I'll be leaving them soon, they must want to create another life to dominate over"

"Ewww, you are disgusting in so many ways"

"You know you love me" I giggled

The party went live within an instant people dancing and drinking. I loved this, this was what a party was supposed to be like. Now if only I could find the love of my life

"Levi" I said as he walked up to me. But nope not Levi, he was not the live of my life

"Hey birthday girl, when are you and I gonna have some alone time?"

"Give me a minute ok I'm looking for someone" I laughed as he wrapped his hands around my waist

"Come on, someone more important thank me?"

"Come on don't let me pick favourites"

"Well right now in this room? You're my favourite person" he whispered in my ear"

I shivered "just give me a second ok?"

"Alright" he wiggled his eyebrows at me as I walked away

I saw one of the people Maeve had choir practice with and approached her "hey have you seen Maeve?" The girl shook her head

I walked around searching for for, until I bumped into someone

"Hey watch it" but it was Maeve and she looked terrified "Hey babe what's up?"

"I..."

"Jinny" Levi walked towards me, you ready now

"Ummm... yeah I just..." I turned to look at her

"It’s ok, you can go" she smiled

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah I just need some fresh air"

"Maeve-"

"Hey go enjoy your birthday, you only turn 18 once" she smiled pushing me towards Levi

"Ok" I nodded and followed him to dance

Time flew by, while I was with him, he was an amazing dancers. It seemed like this guy was perfect, strong athletic, smart, has the body of a Greek god.

"Let's go somewhere private" he whispered into my ear

I led him upstairs to my room. As soon as the door closed our mouths connected and it was electric. He kissed like a starving man, it turned me on in ways I couldn't explain. He bit my lower lip tugging at it, I slipped out a moan. We walked over to my bed and fell on the mattress our moyths never leaving each other's. Pulled at my hair and ugh, I needed more

I overturned him so I could be on top, and slowly I dry humped him, he groaned and Oh I was already wet. It went on like that as we continued kissing, slowly I unbottened his shirt. When I suddenly heard a loud scream.

I ran out to check it out "what the hell happened?"

Everyone looked at me, with a mix of horror, pity and anxiety

"What happened?" I repeated, I ran downstairs, but the stares didn't stop, why were they looking at me like that?

"Why're you all looking at me like that?" I yelled, someone pointed a shaky finger towards the pool area, and I dashed out.

As I got out I saw a body lying on the ground

"Maeve" I let out a shaky breath, she was drenched, but most of all she was unmoving. "She can't swim" so why is she wet? what did you do to her" I asked the guy standing next to her

"Nothing I found her in the pool and pulled her out. I tried cpr but Nothing's happening"

"Maeve" I knelt down next to her "Maeve please wake up, Maeve please, try it again" I said to the guy "try it again pls"

"I'm sorry, I tried several times already"

The tears slipped down my face all at once " Call 911, please" I yelled "Call 911, Maeve, please, help me pls call 911" I cried, I cried and cried and didn't stop even after I knew she was dead, even after she was pronounced dead at the hospital. I didn't stop, even when her mum's wails echoed through the hospital. All I could think about was that If I hadn't gone with Levi, my BestFriend would still be alive.
