Chapter 1: A Chance Encounter
The rain poured relentlessly, drumming against the pavement as Evelyn hurried down the street, her coat pulled tightly around her. She hadn't expected the sudden storm, and now she was drenched, her auburn hair clinging to her face. Just as she reached the entrance of the small café on the corner, she bumped into someone—a tall, dark-haired man holding a flimsy umbrella that had long since surrendered to the wind.
"Oh! I—I'm so sorry," she stammered, taking a step back.
He chuckled, shaking his head. "No harm done. Seems like we both underestimated the weather."
His voice was warm, soothing. Evelyn looked up and found herself lost in his deep blue eyes. He smiled, and something about it made her feel lighter, as if the rain wasn’t so bad after all.
"Would you mind some company while we wait for the storm to pass?" he asked, nodding toward the café.
Evelyn hesitated, but only for a moment. "Sure."
They stepped inside, the warmth embracing them as the scent of coffee and fresh pastries filled the air. It felt safe, almost as if fate had led them to this moment
