Chapter one
Prologue
One thousand years ago…
The world knew no borders.
Humans and Lycans walked the same roads, traded in the same markets, and celebrated the same harvest festivals beneath an unbroken sky.
Children chased one another through flower fields while merchants sold their goods without fear. Peace was so constant that no one imagined it could shatter.
High above the mortal realm, beyond the reach of human eyes, three divine figures watched from the summit of Mount Celestia.
The Moon Goddess sat in quiet grace, her silver robes shimmering like starlight. Her gentle gaze rested on the Lycans, her beloved creations as they lived in harmony with humanity.
Beside her stood the God of Wind, his emerald cloak dancing to a gentle breeze. A carefree smile lingered on his lips as he admired the quiet world below.
The third figure, however, radiated pure fury.
The God of Thunder.
Dark storm clouds churned overhead as his fists tightened. Violet lightning crackled across his knuckles, each spark hotter and brighter than the last.
"They dare mock me..." he growled, his voice rolling like distant thunder.
The God of Wind stepped forward, raising a hand. "Calm yourself, old friend. A mortal's slight is not worth unraveling the realm."
The God of Thunder’s jaw locked. "It was no mortal. She insulted me before the pantheon." He turned his glowing eyes toward the quiet goddess. "The Moon Goddess has forgotten her place."
Another jagged bolt split the sky.
"The Lycans she treasures so deeply..." His voice shook the foundation of the mountain. "...I will teach them a lesson that will echo through eternity."
A soft silver light flooded the peak, cooler than the storm and twice as strong.
The Moon Goddess stepped between him and the edge. "You would strike down innocent souls merely to salve your wounded pride?"
The God of Thunder sneered. "They exist because of you. That makes them guilty enough."
"They exist under my protection," she replied quietly. "And you will not touch them."
For one agonizing heartbeat, the world fell dead silent.
Then....
BOOM!
Radiant silver light collided with raging, violent thunder.
The Mountains cracked to their roots. Silver brilliance and violet lightning devoured the sky in a blinding, world-altering explosion...
"...Grandma?"
A little girl tugged gently at the old woman's frayed sleeve, her wide eyes reflecting the dimming embers of the hearth.
"What happened next?"
The old woman offered a sad, distant smile, looking out toward the jagged peaks on the horizon.
"No one truly knows, little one," she whispered softly. "But after that night..."
She pulled the girl's blanket up close.
"...Humans and Lycans never walked the same roads again."
And so, the legend of the Great Separation was born.
