He smiled soft and shrugged a little as he looked down at their hands. His was still covering hers and he started to gently rub the back of her hand with his thumb. “I’m glad you’re not worried about the age difference between us.” He said and smirked when he felt her kiss his cheek.
“I wouldn’t let something small like age get in the middle of something like that. My parents are almost 15 years apart, but they have been in love for about 30 years.”
He just smiled as he looked over at the woman next to him. He’s never brought a girl back to his office because he would rather get them drunk and relaxed before he brought them home and fed on their blood. But Sarah was different, there was something about her that drove him to her from the moment they bumped into each other on the sidewalk that first night. “They sound like a great couple.”
“They really are. They met when my mother was in college and he was working down the street at a restaurant. She went in with a couple friends after a breakup and he was their waiter. Suddenly she wasn’t so upset about the breakup.” She said with a small laugh, which caused Andrew to smile. He already loved her laugh and thought it was contagious. “They started dating a month later and got married within the year. Not even five years later, they had a toddler and a baby.” She said, knowing she had already told him that her brother was older than her.
“Wow, they never once broke up?” He asked and she just shook her head. “That’s crazy, although I think that’s great and how it should be.” He finished only to see her looking up at him with a smile on her face. “What?”
“It’s refreshing to hear a guy talk that way about love.” She said, using his words that he had been using with her. “Most guys these days cheat and lie their way through a relationship. It’s hard to find someone who would prefer to be in a loving, committed relationship without cheating on their partner. That goes for women too.”
“That’s true. There have always been people who cheat, but I agree that it has been getting worse over the past few decades.” He said, personally seeing the change himself with people he has associated himself with over the past 500 years.
She looked over at him and raised an eyebrow. “Into history?” She asked, just curious about how he knew that it’s been getting worse over decades. All she remembered was her parents talking about what it was like when they were dating, but Andrew already told her that his parents died when he was young, so he doesn’t even remember them.
He was used to thinking quick on his feet, especially when he was questioned about the past, which means he didn’t even have to think about his answer. “I have some clients and coworkers that are older, and they like to tell stories about when they were dating. Especially when they see people meet here and go home together.”
Thankfully for him, Sarah just nodded and rested her head on his shoulder before yawning. “I should probably head home. But how about one more dance?” She asked and smirked soft when Andrew stood up and gently led her back to the dance floor.
Once they were on the dance floor, Andrew turned her around so her back was pressed against his stomach and chest. He rested his hands on her hips and she rested her hands on his as they moved to the beat, their hips swaying together with her hips digging into his. “You know, I actually have a dance competition come up. I know last time when we had dinner together you mentioned wanting to see me dance. You could come, it’s next weekend at 10 until 5.” She said and he hesitated. She noticed but shrugged it off, not sure if it was related to her invitation or not. She just looked up at him and rested her head on his shoulder as they continued to move to the beat.
“I would love to be there. I may have a meeting, but I can cancel. As I said, I would love to see you dance. Just text me the address and remind me of the time.” He said and she nodded, figuring the meeting was why he hesitated. She gently kissed his cheek and slowly pulled away.
“I’ll text you tonight with the address once I get home. I’ll see you soon.” She said, sure they would see each other next weekend even if it wasn’t at the competition. They had been seen each other three times now, two Saturdays and one Sunday. They haven’t met on the weekdays, but she had school, both college and dance during the week and often got up shortly after dawn and then came home around dusk. It was more often than not that she didn’t get the number of hours her doctor always recommended.
He leaned down and placed a soft kiss onto her lips before she walked away. She blushed bright and gave him a small smile before starting to walk to the door. “Night Andrew.” She said and he just nodded in response before walking back to his office. She watched as he left before going to the door. She went home and texted him the address, just like she had promised.
Once she was settled in, she got into the shower and got cleaned up before going into bed. She sat on her phone for about an hour, including getting a confirmation text message from Andrew before she turned in for the night. Within ten minutes, she was asleep.
