Chapter 1(HEY MCGILL IT'S LIZZY)
Lizzy's eyes sparkled like the stars on a clear Harmattan night as she bounced into her small but cozy bedroom in Accra, her long legs carrying her excitement with ease. At 18, she was about to embark on a new adventure, one that would take her from the familiarity of her family's home to the vibrant, bustling world of university life in Canada. With a bright smile and a wave of her hand, she flushed away the butterflies in her stomach, eager to start this new chapter. After all, she'd just received the letter â she was going to study English Literature at McGill University!
She took a deep breath, letting her gaze wander around the room, taking in the familiar sights â the posters of her favorite authors, the stack of dog-eared books on her shelf, and the neatly made bed with its bright yellow comforter. Her mom had helped her pick out the bedding set just a week ago, saying, "Lizzy, this is the start of something big, baby!"
Lizzy's thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. "Hey, Lizzy! Time for lunch, m' dear," her mom called out, her voice warm and encouraging.
Lizzy's face lit up, and she quickly bounded downstairs to join her family for a celebratory meal. Her dad, beaming with pride, handed her a small package wrapped in brown paper. "A little something for your new journey, kiddo," he said, his eyes twinkling.
Lizzy's eyes sparkled as she took the package from her dad, her fingers eagerly unwrapping the brown paper to reveal a sleek, silver laptop đ». "For your uni days, kiddo," her dad said, smiling. "We know you'll make us proud."
Lizzy squealed, hugging her parents tightly. "Thank you, thank you! This is perfect!"
The family sat down to a feast of jollof rice, grilled chicken, and plantains â Lizzy's favorite. As they ate, they chatted about McGill, Montreal, and the adventures Lizzy would have.
After lunch, Lizzy spent the afternoon packing, her mind buzzing with plans and dreams. As the sun set over Accra, she posted a photo of her suitcase on Insta, captioning it: "New chapter, new vibes đđšđŠ #McGillBound"
Lizzy's eyes widened as she stepped off the plane in Montreal, the crisp autumn air a shock after Ghana's warmth. She took a deep breath, excitement and nerves swirling like the falling leaves .
At McGill, she followed the Freshers' Guide to her dorm, suitcases in tow. As she opened her room door, a banner hit her full in the face: "WELCOME TO MCGILL, LIZZY! #Fresh2026"
Lizzy gasped. Her new roommate, a quiet girl with glasses, grinned from behind a stack of pillows. "Surprise! I'm Priya. Welcome to our pad!"
The room burst into chaos as friends from orientation poured in, armed with snacks, decorations, and "McGill Survivor" shirts . Lizzy laughed, tears pringing her eyes â this was gonna be big.
Lizzy's first McGill party was a blur of new faces, laughter, and late-night food coma . Now, hungover-ish but hype, she and Priya navigated the campus, catching snippets of frosh-week chaos.
