Seraphina POV
I know my mother wasn't happy when I said I was going to find Caspian, but I need to see him. It's crazy how much Harmony and I crave to be around him now. I knew the mate bond was strong, but I never expected to ache for him the way I do. I know it will probably be more manageable the longer we are mated, but right now I need to see him. I make my way through the pack house toward the office he has been using.
When I reach the door I'm shocked to see it's cracked open. I take a step closer and I hear Caspian and my brother talking. I'm just about to push the door open when Marcus speaks. Hearing him say he thought Abby was going to be Caspian's mate has anger bubbling up inside me. I know Marcus is jealous, but how can he say something so hurtful?
Hearing them talk about Abby has my mother's words from the night of the party coming back to me. Bile rises in my throat. When Caspian says it would be easier if Abby was his mate because of what happened, I feel like my heart is being ripped out of my chest. He slept with my best friend. He doesn't even have to say it for me to know that it's the truth. Before I can stop myself, I gasp.
Harmony whimpers when Caspian's eyes meet mine. He betrayed me. I warned him there would be consequences and he kept this from me. He wishes that Abby was his mate. "Seraphina." He says my name, but all I can hear is him saying about Abby being his mate. My best friend who has been avoiding me. Who didn't tell me the truth either.
"Fina, please," Harmony says, knowing what I'm about to do. "I'm sorry Harmony, but I can't stay with him knowing I'm not his first choice." "I love you Fina. No matter what," she says. I notice him moving closer to me slowly. The thought of him touching me right now has my skin ready to crawl. "I, Seraphina Hill, reject you, Caspian Young and break our bond." He drops to his knees before he can reach me.
"Seraphina, what the f**k are you doing?" "F**k you Marcus. You wanted the Beta position so much, it's yours. You are no longer my brother. Accept my rejection Caspian. Then you and Abby can be together." "I don't want Abby. I love you Seraphina. Let me explain," he manages to croak out. "The time for explaining was the night I accepted you. We are done Caspian. I won't be anyone's second choice."
"Last chance to accept my rejection." "Never, I, Caspian Young, reject your rejection. You are my mate until I take my last breath," he says. "Well, then suffer every time I decide to give myself to someone else." He roars and I turn to leave the room. I head straight to my room and step out of my dress. I quickly pull on sweats and a faded T-shirt. I can't stay here. I'll head to the human city and decide what to do from there.
My chest aches with the thought of leaving my parents, but I can't be around Caspian. I throw everything I need in a bag and all the money I've saved over the years. I'm just about to turn toward my door when it bangs open. Caspian looks crazed as his eyes meet mine. "Take it back. You are my mate and nothing is going to change that. What happened with Abby was a mistake. I don't want her," he says, taking a step toward me. A feeling of rage tears through me at the thought of him touching my best friend.
Without warning, I lunge landing a punch to his face. The satisfying crunch lets me know I've broken his nose. He falls to his knees and blood pours down his face. I step around him and rush out of my room. Marcus tries to stop me and I knee him in the balls next. "Fina, I'm sorry," he says from the floor, but I don't care. A brother doesn't do what he has done to me. He knew what Caspian had done. I make my way into the hallway and toward the stairs.
I debate whether to tell my parents, but I know they won't want me to leave. Once I'm out of the pack house, I make my way toward the trees. When I'm almost to the border, I start to strip, but not before I open my link to my parents. "Fina, where are you," my mother asks frantically. "I can't stay here, mom. You were right. He slept with Abby. He had hoped she would be his mate." There is a long pause before my father speaks. "I'm sorry sweetheart. He doesn't deserve you if that's truly what he wants," he says.
I can't stop the sob that rips through me. I love him and this hurts like nothing I've ever felt. "Fina, I want you to head to the Diamond Moon pack. You'll have to break your bond with our pack so they can't track you. My best friend from training is the Beta there. He will take care of you," he says. "Alright dad. For now, I'm going to the human city to regroup. I'll contact you when I'm safe. I love you both." "We love you too, sweetheart," my mother says, and I cut the link.
"I, Seraphina Hill, break my bond with the Shadow pack. From this day forward, I am a rogue." The feeling of loss is overwhelming and nearly knocks me to my knees. "I'm with you, Fina. Let's go," Harmony says. The sound of a wolf howling in pain lets me know the Alpha has felt me break my bond with the pack. I shift, and Harmony picks up our bag. We take off just as we hear the pounding of paw against the earth. This is not how I expected today to go.
Caspian POV
I manage to get to my feet and rush from Seraphina's room. When I step into the living room, Marcus is lying on the floor with his hand on his balls. I smile knowing my mate is the one that put him there. I don't have time to waste, so I rush out of the Beta suite and down the hall. When I reach the bottom of the stairs, I come face to face with a very pissed off Beta. For the second time in a short time, I'm on my a**. "How f**king dare you hurt my daughter," he growls.
It doesn't take long for a crowd to gather, including my parents. "George, what the hell is going on," my father asks. "You should ask your ba**ard of a son what he has done," he says. My father looks pissed and at first I think it's at George, but then he whirls on me. "What the f**k did you do," he asks. "Seraphina found out that I slept with Abby before we were mated." As if my words conjured her Abby steps through the crowd.
She keeps her eyes cast down. "My office now," my father says. Before he can take two steps, he howls in pain and drops to his knees. My heart feels like it's being split in two when I realize not only did she splinter our bond, but she just broke her pack bond. My eyes meet my mother's and the disappointment I see just adds to my misery. George helps my father to his feet and whispers something in his ear that I can't make out.
By the time I make it to my father's office, everyone is already seated, including Marcus and Abby. "What the f**k happened? I want every single detail now," my father says. "Before I left for training, Abby and I spent time together." George growls and I know I deserve his wrath. I should never have touched Abby or any member of the pack, but what's more, I should have told Seraphina, no matter how scared I was.
"How many times did we tell you that you should wait for your mate? Can you imagine how devastated Seraphina felt hearing you slept with her best friend," my mother asks. I go to speak, and my father glares at me. "Finish," he says. "I told Abby and Marcus to keep their mouths shut. I never wanted her to know." This time George's growl was not directed at me. "You knew, and you said nothing to your sister," he says to Marcus.
"She doesn't even have the right to be mad. It was before they knew they were mates. If she wasn't eavesdropping she wouldn't have known," he says. I look at my best friend for the first time and realize that he is hiding something. Before his father can reach him, I do. I grab him by the throat. "What did you do?"
"Nothing, I did nothing. I kept your secretm" he says. I squeeze tighter, knowing he is lying. "I heard you talking about letting Seraphina continue to train the warriors with me. I love my sister but the title and responsibilities should have been mine. We are only five months apart. I should have been Beta. I heard her telling mom she was going to come see you before the ceremony because she hated being away from you," he says and closes his eyes.
"So you made sure the door was open, and we talked about Abby." He nods his head and I release my hold on him. I land a punch to his gut before I step back. He doubles over, yet I feel like I can't breathe. The man I consider a best friend drove my mate away. "No, you did that by not being honestm" Titus says. A sob has me turning toward the sound. Abby falls to her knees and no one makes a move to comfort her.
"Seraphina has broken her bond with the pack. You have not only cost yourself your mate, but you have cost the pack its rightful Luna. You have cost your mother and I, our daughter-in-law. As of now, you will not be named Alpha until such a time that I feel you have made amends. As for Seraphina, I had intended to bring her back so you could beg for her forgiveness but George and Jenna have asked me not to," he says. I turn to face George and Jenna.
Tears streak down Jenna's face, but George looks like he is ready to beat me into the ground. "I have never been so disappointed in my life. I respected you as the future Alpha, but you have lost that respect. As for you, Marcus, you will be moving into the pack house. I can't even look at you. You have always been jealous of your sister, but I had hoped with age you would grow out of it. Obviously that didn't happen. It was your job to protect her heart, but instead you helped destroy it," George says.
"Dad, I'm sorry." Marcus starts to apologize, his own tears now marking his cheeks. "Save it. Words are worthless. Damian, I will need a few days away from the pack to ensure my daughter is settled," he says. "No, please George. I know she is angry, but she is still my mate. We have completed the bond." "Tough. Until my daughter tells me otherwise, hers is the only heart that I care about."
