Hugo's POV
Today, Iris and I started our duties as Luna and Alpha, and I was already stressing due to all the paperwork. Iris, on the other hand, seemed like she had been training for this her whole life. She was doing her tasks effortlessly. I knew I had made the right choice to have her, and I was so lucky to have her by my side. My parents had also helped us, both my dad with me and my mom with Iris, although it seemed like I needed more help from both of them.
"Hugo, this is all new to you and you're doing great. "Stop being so hard on yourself," my mom said, walking around my huge desk and standing next to me.
"I know, I just want to be the best alpha that I can be, and I don't want to screw it up. "I have alot of eyes watching me right now and making the best choices for this pack is beginning to just be alot." I told her honestly.
"Oh sweetheart, you will do amazing things for this pack and I know alot are still against you being alpha, but you are strong, and you will show them that you can lead." My family are the most important people in my life, so I knew if she believed in me, then I could do it.
"I know, and thank you. Would you mind leaving? I just want to have some time to think and gather my thoughts and begin doing all this paperwork." I asked
"Of course" she said, giving me a quick hug and leaving my new office. I was grateful that she understood that I wanted to be alone right now and didn't bother to argue with me about it.
I stood up and moved over to the window, looking down and out across the whole garden. It was huge. I looked down and could see all the young pups training in one group while other groups were older. Some fighting in human form, others in their werewolf form. I left to go back to my desk and finish up some more of the paperwork that had been waiting to be looked at.
Two hours had passed, and I was still busy in the office. I just wanted to hurry up and find Iris. I was beginning to miss her and lunged to be with her. Until someone came and knocked on the door.
"Come in" I shouted, looking up to see who it was. A sign of relief washed over me when I saw it was my beautiful mate. A smile formed on my face as I gestured for her to come over to me.
"Hello, mate" I said with a smile.
"Hi, are you done?" She questioned, looking at all the papers scattered along my desk.
"Not yet, I only have a few more papers to sort out, but it shouldn't take much longer now" I signed, resting my head on my arm.
"Come and get some food, and you can continue this after, with a fresh mind." Of course, she knew how to make me happy, the way to a man's heart is always through his stomach. We both stood, and headed down to the kitchen.
"What would you like to eat, my lady?" I asked with a smile. Even with the maids here, I wanted to cook something for my mate.
"You want to cook for me?" She questioned with raised eyebrows.
"Are you doubting my cooking?" I asked with a fake gasp, pretending to be hurt by her lack of belief that I could cook. Just as she was about to answer, Elijah came into the kitchen gasping for air.
"Hey, what's up?" I looked over, waiting for a reply.
"I have been looking everywhere for you. Rogues have been sighted close to our northern borders", he said, once he finally gained his breath. This information had picked my interest.
"I don't know why they're there, but we saw that there were only about ten of them for now." It could be nothing, but I wasn't about to take a chance on it. I had to act and prove to my pack that I was the right person to lead this pack.
"I want you and some other warriors to keep an eye out. If they come onto our land, you kill them." I told him, this was my opportunity to show everyone I had what it takes to lead. He and Iris both turned to look at me as if questioning what I was doing.
"I will show everyone that I can lead this pack. Just because I am human that doesn't mean I am not strong. This is my opportunity to show them that noon dares to cross into my territory whenever they please." I said, not looking back at either of them while continuing to make our food.
"O-kay, I'll make sure they know what to do" he said before leaving us alone again.
"Hugo, are you sure that is the right thing to do? If they only want to cross borders, then don't you think it is extreme to have them killed?" she asked. I wasn't sure why she was now doubting me as well.
"They are only rogues. I have a pack to run, and I can't have my pack think that I should just allow anyone to come onto my land and endanger them." I told her with my mind already made up.
"I understand your point and way of thinking, but the members of this pack won't think any less of you, just because you are letting them cross to other borders. Think abo-" I tried my best to listen before my vision began to blur, and my mind began to get loud with voices. That was the last thing I could hear before I had passed out.
"Wake up, Hugo. Wake up, I am here" I heard in my head as my eyes began to flutter open slowly. God my head was killing. I felt like I had been hit by a truck multiple times. The first thing I noticed was Iris sitting next to me. I reached over to take her hand, causing her eyes to dart towards mine instantly.
"Oh finally, you're awake." She said, leaning down to hug me tightly. Knocking the air from my lungs out. It was only then did I notice that my family were also in the room watching with worried eyes. Iris finally let go and sat back with a happy smile. I gave her a small smile to appreciate her being by my side.
"What happened to me?" I asked, waiting for someone to tell me.
"You passed out while we were talking about the rogues," Iris told me, squeezing my hand gently.
"How long have I been asleep for?" that was my next question.
"You've been asleep for two days sweetheart". My mom came closer, taking my other hand and squeezing before continuing, "We're not completely sure what caused you to pass out, but the doctor told us to keep an eye on you incae this happens again." I gave a small nod, Goddess, my head felt like it was about to explode.
"What about the rogues? Are they still there?" Everyone avoided eye contact with me while looking at each other instead, and I took this as a sign that it wasn't about to be good news.
