Chapter 15
Amanda called back the next day to make plans to get together. She and her brother, Paul, decided to spare Cal the children and spouses until he was more comfortable. They made plans to meet at a restaurant halfway between their two towns—neutral territory. Andy offered to accompany Cal for moral support, but Cal was already concerned he was coming to depend on Andy too much, too quickly. They were just beginning to reestablish their relationship, and Cal didn’t want to scare Andy away.
He’d expected to be nervous meeting his long-lost family, but he hadn’t expected to be near panic. They were just people, after all. He called Andy from the car; thank god his rental had hands-free calling.
