Chapter 4. A sweet smell

A sweet smell

Adam's pov

Most of the after noon I spent sleeping. Now as dusk approached I Quickly ate cold leftovers of some meal my mother had made. After my meeting with my dad I decided to stay in my old room. I guess I was feeling a little homesick. Once I had shoveled the last two bite's of food into my mouth I dropped the Tupperware into the sink and left. Shutting the front door I turned and headed over to Theo's house. He was sitting on his front porch with Kate. 

"Hey man." Theo said 

"Hey. Hi Kate." I greeted them both. 

Kate stood giving me a small nod and went inside the house. Pulling a small box from my back pocket I gave it to Theo as I sat in the chair across from him. 

"Happy birthday." i said. 

He opened the box reveling an old wood handled knife. Flipping the knife in his hand he smiled at me and gave his thanks.

"so your mom must be ecstatic." 

"oh you have no idea. She has gone crazy. Already started writing the family Christmas leader and knitting baby clothes." He said rolling his eyes. 

"The way you guys were earlier I wouldn't be surprised if little Theo's won't be running around soon."

"We didn't even mark each other yet." he stated

"no but that didn't stop the pda." Nate said as he come out of the house.

"Hey coming from you that has no meaning."  Theo rolled his eye's

"Whatever little brother." Nate said ruffling Theo's hair

"Don't you have somewhere to be?" Theo growled 

"Don't you have a mate to save from mom?" Nate chuckled. 

Theo dashed inside waving us off. 

"You ready?" I asked Nate 

"yeah." he said shrugging his shoulders. 

With that we walked to the edge of the forest and stashed our clothes before shifting. We meet up with the some other wolfs and relieved the one's that were on before us. Just after midnight I sensed rouges near the west side of the town.  There were three in wolf form searching for a scent. My conclusion was they must be trying to find their mate's but as we grew closer they went on the attack. Two darted towards Nate the third  lunged at the smallest of our group. It was not difficult  taking them down. After the rouges were taken to the prison me and Nate continued our patrol in human form. The rest of the night went quite enough. Dawn was starting to break as we were heading home. Nearing our parent's house's I noticed the forest was airily quite.  I grabbed Nate's  arm.

"do you hear that?" I asked

He looked at me noticing the quite for the first time. We stood there listening for a few minutes before I got an amazing scent. As I started walking forward I could hear a faint heartbeat. Nate who was close behind me picked up on the heartbeat and started heading off to the side so he could come up behind whoever owned the beating heart. The scent became stronger as I got closer. Surprise washed over me as two things became clear to me. First was that it was Tessa who's heart we could hear. Second this small human was my mate. Nate fallowed me into realization but unlike me as soon as he realized it was Tessa he rushed forward. He stooped down frantically examining her as I just stood there starring  at her beautifully pale face. Listening to her little heart I heard it slow and without another thought I scooped  her up and started running full speed towards her mother's house. Her mom was a pack doctor and used to wolfs coming to her in an emergency so she had a home office. Swinging open the back door I stared yelling for help. Handling Tessa as gently as I could I took her into her mom's office right off the kitchen.   As I was laying her down on the table Nate stumbled in just as pale as Tessa. Fallowing behind him was his mom. She was tying her hair back as she was heading towards the sink to wash her hands. Looking up I realized she speaking.

"Where is the injury and how did it happen?" she asked.

"Tessa. It's Tessa." Nate gasped out. This news stopped her as she turned from washing her hands and noticed the girl on the table. Once she took in the situation she got to work setting up monitors, wires and tubes.  Settling down only when Tessa started to wake up.
