Chapter 1: New Beginnings in the Big Apple š
Angel stepped off the crowded subway and onto the bustling streets of New York City. The bright lights and sounds of Manhattan hit her like a wave as she adjusted her backpack. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the butterflies in her stomach. Today was the day ā her first day at Newton High.
She'd transferred from LA, leaving behind friends, family, and a life she knew. Her parents had gotten new jobs in the city, and Angel was determined to make a fresh start. She'd always been the quiet type, preferring to keep to herself, but something about this new city felt exciting, like a blank canvas waiting to be filled.
As she walked towards Newton High, a sleek black car pulled up beside her. The window rolled down, revealing a guy with piercing blue eyes and messy, dark hair. He flashed a cocky smile, and Angel's heart skipped a beat.
"Hey, new girl. Lost?" he asked, leaning out the window.
Angel raised an eyebrow, trying to play it cool. "Just navigating, thanks."
He chuckled, his eyes cr crling at the corners. "Welcome to Newton High, then. I'm Chris."
Angel's mind went blank for a second. This was Chris ā the millionaire bad boy she'd heard whispers about? The one who ruled the school with his charm and his father's fortune? š
"Angel," she said, smiling back, hoping she didn't sound too breathless.
Chris's gaze lingered for a moment, taking in her messy blonde hair, bright green eyes, and the oversized hoodie she wore like a shield. He seemed to like what he saw, because his smile grew wider.
"I'll see you around, Angel," he said, winking before the car sped off, leaving her staring after him.
She shook her head, feeling a little dizzy. What just happened?
As she walked into Newton High, the noise hit her like a wall. Students chatted in groups, laughing and joking, while others rushed to their lockers, trying to squeeze in a few more minutes of chitchat before the bell rang.
Angel scanned the crowded hallways for her locker, feeling a little lost. She'd gotten the combination and locker number, but actually finding it was a different story. She spotted a map of the school on the wall and rushed over, trying to get her bearings.
As she spun the combo on her locker, a group of students nearby snatched glances at her. The new girl was already turning heads.
Chris leaned against a wall nearby, eyes still on Angel. He hadn't missed the way she'd raised an eyebrow at him, or the way she'd smiled, like she wasn't intimidated by him at all. Most people either frowned or swooned when they saw him. This one? She was different.
And he liked it š.
The bell rang, echoing through the hallways, and students started to move. Angel grabbed her books and joined the flow, wondering what other surprises this day would bring.
