The world blurred as I twisted in my seat, my breath sharp and ragged. Claudia had changed to the warrior I knew and I also knew that it wasn't time for me to be a coward.
The car behind us stayed relentless, its headlights glaring like eyes set on a deadly mission. A chill swept through me as I squinted into the dim evening light. The driver’s face remained hidden, shrouded in shadows that made my skin crawl.
“H-He’s after us! He wants to kill us!” Claudia’s voice said and I could sense the panic in her voice though she tried hard not to show it.
Then, she slammed her foot on the gas pedal and the car shot forward like a missile, tyres screeching against the asphalt. The valley to our right yawned open, a dark abyss that seemed to beckon us toward a fatal plunge.
