New School Life

Aubrielle: The plane ride to the Hybrid Academy was smooth. Ace and I chopped it up, talking about everything from anime to video games. We even looked at the brochure. "I'm not going to lie, but this school looks cool as fuck." Ace nodded his head. "What you think?" I knew he was excited about it. We were all in college now. I was, too. Leaning back in the seat, I looked around in the plane. Everybody on there were going to the school as well. There were females on there, but they were talking to other girls. I, of course, didn't have that kind of confidence. I was very shy meeting others and if I was with a group, I would keep quiet. Something I grew with. "You know, that shyness of yours is going have to leave, right?" Ace asked me. "Of course I do." I rolled my eyes. "Look, we can't be under each other 24/7. People might think we're dating." "Yes, I get it. And that'll never happen. You're my best friend." Ace put his arm around me and I snuggled close to him. "You'll do fine." He told me. "Find some girls you can match with." "It's easy for you to say. You can make friends with the snap of your fingers." Ace wasn't ugly at all. I already knew he was going to have girls all over him. Something I really wasn't ready for. And those gorgeous green eyes were the reason along with that trimmed beard and handsome smile. Let's not forget his caring attitude. I heard how men get when they start dating and I could only hope that it didn't happen to Ace. I needed him. And he knew that. The others can kick rocks. Ace must've heard what I was thinking and chuckled. "No girl is going to come between our relationship." Ace whispered to me. "Is that so? She might get jealous of how close we are." "And let her. You're family. She's a temporary companion." "Someone you could plan your future with." Ace shook his head. "I'm not looking for that, Aubri." He defended. "How about this? If she wants to date me, she has to go through you. Are you okay with that?" I looked at him and nodded. He rested his head against mine and sighed. "So, how do you feel about leaving the house?" Someone asked me from behind. I turned around and saw my other cousin, Jaiden, behind me. "Weird." I told him. "Are you ready for college?" "Not really." Jaiden answered. "I am happy to get away from my parents." "Man, me too. We finally have space and privacy." Ace joined in. "Ace and Jaiden, did you guys check your schedules for the classes?" I looked at Lucias and he just rolled his eyes at me. My mind was trying to process what I even did to him? He was just mean to me for no reason. "Aubri, check your schedule." Ace told me. I pulled out my phone and went to email where my schedule was. Of course, the boring subjects. Math, English, History and other things were on there. There was one subject that caught my attention. "Mating Course?" I asked them. "What's that?" Ace looked at me, then at my schedule. "Where you look for a mate, I guess." Ace shrugged. "But, I don't want a mate." "Once they find out you're a mortal, they're not going to want you either." Lucias chuckled. I snapped my head in his direction and he smirked at me. "Lucias, man." Ace scowled him. "What? We're all thinking it." "Me and the others aren't." Jaiden said. "Sure they aren't." "Dude, stop being f*****g negative. Regardless of how you feel, she's a Blackwind like the majority of us on this f*****g plane." I looked back at Lucias and his eyes scanned me before he turned back to the people beside him. "Don't worry, okay?"Jaiden whispered to me. It wasn't okay. It hurt me that my cousins didn't want to get to know me because of the fact I didn't care the genes. Hell, I wanted to be like them, but it didn't happen that way. My mother said it was just late, but I'm already 18 years old and still nothing. When was it going to be my turn to shift and drink blood like my cousins? "So, I heard the girls at the school are like variety of shifters." Jaiden told us. "What do you mean?" Ace asked. "Dude, like there's rabbit shifters, panthers, tigers and even snakes. I was shocked that there were so many shifters coming to the school." "Wait, I thought the school was from H.A?" I asked, confused. "Different H.A. We're not the only ones that are hybrids, cousin." I looked at Jaiden and he winked at me before the flight attendant came over, telling him to stay in his seat. "We got a couple classes together." Ace told me. I turned back to him, not realizing he was looking at my phone. "That sucks." I told him. "I wanted my classes all with you." "No you don't." Jaiden told me. "You guys will get tired of seeing each other as the days go on." "Not true." Ace told him. "I enjoy spending time with her. We did it basically all our lives since nobody else wanted to spend time with her." "Well, your fathers are very close." Lucias added. "Besides, why were you spending time with her, anyways? She's boring as ever." "You know what, f**k you, Lucias! You're an asshole!" Lucias smiled at me. "Don't be mad because you're a nobody. You shouldn't be apart of this family, stupid mortal." "Why do you hate me so much?" "Look at yourself and you tell me. You're the runt of the family. That's why everybody laughs at you. You're a f*****g joke. Ace thinks you are as well." I looked at Ace, hoping he didn't think that. "I don't." Ace said, calmly. "Then why you didn't go see her for her last year?" "Dude, I had to work. Don't play with me." "You still didn't come by." I reminded him. "I got off late. I'm sorry." "Told you, Nobody." Wow, those words hit like a knife. I nodded and unbuckled my seat belt. "Where are you going?" Ace asked. I stopped moving and looked at him. "Why do you care?" I asked him. "I'm a nobody, remember?" "I never said you were." I got out of my seat and sighed. "You didn't have to." I told him and walked to the bathroom.
