Chapter 17
after breakfast Jessie and Causy headed outside to the kennel to feed Thor his breakfast and have their first session together. Thor stood at attention, watching them approach, his posture stiff. Tension radiated from him, like a coiled spring waiting to be released.
When they were a few feet from the kennel, he began barking and snarling much as he had done the day before at the exhibition. Jessie stopped then began walking backwards, Causy remaining at heel. As soon as Thor ceased raging at them, she stopped again and put Causey into a sit-stay, then slowly walked forward again. He watched her carefully but remained quiet.
“Good boy,” she said quietly. “So even other dogs aren’t friends right now, are they?” With careful movements, she sat down in front of the door,
