Galen picked up before the first ring even finished. “Jess, everything okay? What’s going on?”
She hated hearing the concern in his voice, but now wasn’t the time to tell the whole story. “Yes, it’s fine. It was an old friend from Chicago who stopped by to check on me. He’d changed cars since I saw him last, so that’s why I didn’t recognize it.”
Galen’s sigh was loud through the phone. “Why do I get the feeling there is a lot more to this story?”
