My morning was spent finalizing details for the Sunday afternoon luncheon. I ran through the details with Jessica in her office. When I was finished she smiled at me.
"Thanks Freya you have been a god send. Why don't you hand the guest list to your new assistant Mia, run through the details with her and take the event off"
"My new assistant?" I asked
"Yes I can't have Mia intern forever and you get so much done I'm sure you will put her to good use. I've also arranged for a small pay rise. You work hard Freya and I don't get to say it often but because you pick up alot of the slack around here I can breathe. I'll be attending the luncheon, it's a smallish event. Show Mia the ropes and enjoy your weekend." She smiled.
"Ok I'll be on my phone if you need me" I added.
"Go have fun Freya. I know it was Sean's anniversary yesterday and you conducted yourself here with such professional grace. You deserve this weekend to exhale."
"Thanks. I'll go find Mia" I gathered my things and left.
Mia was a fashion graduate. She lived and breathed anything designer. She always had an arm full of magazines. She was like a robot with a project. She was possibly the only person who was more organized then me. She literally freaked out when I broke the news to her that she was the hostess for the luncheon.
"Every big fashion editor will be there" she squealed.
"Exactly so focus" I drew her back to the instructions I was barking.
Now that I wasn't going to be there I kept working checking nothing had been overlooked. Before I knew it , it was seven thirty.
"s**t" I jumped up startling Mia " I've a dinner date I'm late" I grabbed my phone and dialled Tristan.
"Hey you ready I have tight reservations planned" he answered
"Yeah but I got ready at work can you pick me up here?" I asked
"Sure see you in ten"
I hung up and began flicking through the sample racks for a dress.
"You okay?" Mia asked.
"I need a dress" I muttered. Mia joined me at the racks.
"I Know just the one" she smiled digging out a raspberry pink satin cocktail dress by Oscar del la Renta.
I grabbed it and flashed her a smile as I stripped off my white jeans and top tossing them in my bag.
"Please fit" I prayed aloud. It fit like a glove. I shook my hair loose and pulled out my make up bag applying a heavier night look.
"Here" Mia trust a pair of black pumps and a black clutch my way.
"Thanks" I smiled. She stood back and took me in.
"stunning" she clapped. My phone beeped that Tristan was down stairs. I grabbed my bag , the clutch and my shoes. Hugged Mia one armed and ran barefoot from the room. The marble was cold on my feet as I burst from the elevator to see Tristan standing there waiting.
"Hey" he smiled
"Hey there" I added.
"You look amazing" he kissed me softly as he took my big bag from me and held out his arm. I smirked as I quickly put my shoes on my feet and linked him. Once I was seated in the back of the car I relaxed.
"So where to? Valentine's?' I asked.
"No I know this amazing steakhouse I thought we'd try" he smirked. We pulled up onto what appeared to be his appointment block.
"Slick this is your place"
"Wait" he added leading me to the elevator when the doors opened we were on the rooftop. A helicopter was on the helipad Devon Enterprises was written on the side. A man ran to greet us and ushered me to the helicopter before I could protest or question it I was helped into my side and Tristan on my right. He handed me a headset of earphones and a mic. I put them on.
"Are you insane"I asked shocked.
"It's a perk" he laughed. I looked out at New York all lit up and it was breath taking.
We flew for an hour or so and then landed.
"Where are we?" I asked.
"Welcome to Quebec" he answered. "Finest French food around"
"Thought you were going to take me to a steakhouse"
"Nah I felt more romantic. Had to match that dress" he laughed pulling me close and kissing me. He took me a cosy cute romantic restaurant and we laughed and chatted. It was so easy to be around him now. As we left the restaurant a little light headed from the wine I cuddled in close to him only to be greeted by flashing lights I startled. Tristan held me close.
"It's ok it's just the dam paparazzi. I got you" he guided me through the crowd, two of his security cleared a path and Tristan helped me into the waiting car.
We sat in silence at first
"You get use to it" he assured me.
"Maybe. How did they know we were in Quebec?"
He shrugged "they always seem to know where I am." He sighed. " I hardly notice them now it's been this way since I was kid"
We boarded the helicopter and headed home I dozed on and off with my head on Tristan's shoulder. We landed and headed into Tristan's penthouse apartment. Once inside he reached for me kissing me softly.
"Don't let it bother you Freya I'll always protect you" he whispered. I kissed him back giving in to my feelings for him.
He reached up and unzipped my dress kissing my neck and shoulders as the dress fell. I allowed him lead me to his bedroom. Afterwards I lay in his arms as he traced his fingers lightly up and down my spine.
"Wow" he murmured. As I propped myself up on my elbow to look at him.
"Tristan Devon is that your way of giving a girl a compliment?"
"You are amazing" he kissed me his lips lingered on mine.
"Bet you say that to all the girls" I giggled straddling him and tracing my hands down his chest.
"No usually at this point I'm trying to leave or get the woman to leave." He replied. "But not you Freya since the moment I met you I've wanted you close." He grabbed my waist and pulled me close. I lost myself in the passion.
I awoke groggy and sat up in the huge bed. Tristan was no where to be seen. I picked up his shirt from the floor and pulled it on. Barefoot I padded across the huge bedroom onto the corridor. I could smell coffee wafting from the kitchen so I walked in that direction. An older lady was there opening the oven and busying herself cooking she looked up as I entered and smiled.
"Good morning Miss Ash. Mr Devon is out on the garden decking. I'll show you through. Would you like tea or coffee?" She asked guiding me to an open double door area.
"Coffee please" I stammered a little overwhelmed
"Cooked breakfast what can I get you?" She added
"Scrambled egg and bacon please" I mekely responded as I spotted Tristan sitting by the pool reading his paper sipping coffee. He looked up as we approached.
"Thank you Mrs Conor" he smiled as I sat down.
I pulled self conciously on his shirt that I was wearing
"Sorry I thought it was you in the kitchen"
He smiled "no I don't cook"
"Well I assumed we were alone. I forgot you'd have household staff."
"My staff are very discreet. It doesn't matter what I do in my own home"
"Well still I wouldn't be parading around your house in just a shirt if I had known"
"Shame I like it" he raised his eyebrows. "It suits you"
Mrs Conor placed my breakfast in front of me and an omelette in front of Tristan.
"Thank you" I responded as she left.
"So what do you want to do today?" He asked.
" As appealing as it is to stay here with you in the lap of luxury I can't it's Lydia's last weekend here. I promised her a fun time" I laughed.
"Well let's do that my way in my style"
"You're way?"
"I know you hate the way I throw money at things but sometimes it's fun and if it means being with you it's worth every penny."
"When did you become a helpless romantic."
"I don't know something about this morning and you has lightened me up."
"Weird"
"Yup." He smirked. "So I'll send a car for Lydia and your roommates." He added whipping out his phone.
"Pick up for where? Tristan I've no clothes with me" I added as he bounded around the table and pulled me to my feet. His lips paused inches from mine. "All sorted" he kissed me and I melted into his touch. "I think you and I need a cold shower" he smirked leading me back into the apartment.
After a steamy shower with Tristan I came out wrapped in a towel only to find shopping bags on the bed from designer stores.
"Ah good Mercy loves to shop" he came in behind me. "Those are yours"
I opened the first bag and pulled out a backless gold cocktail dress. There were georgous matching pumps. I pulled out a pair of jeans and a white fitted shirt. One of the bags also contained very Lacey and sexy underwear. I held them up.
"Are these on your orders too?"
"No but Mercy assumed it's why she's good at her job and works for me." He replied. "You might want to put them away or you and I will not be leaving this room." He warned.
I dressed in the jeans, shirt and a beautiful deep pink tailored jacket. I pulled on black flats that had also been purchased.
"Perfect" Tristan smiled as he re entered the bedroom. "Mrs Conor will pack us up." He added.
"Why where are we going?"
"You'll see" he handed me my purse and my phone.
"You love this don't you?" I answered. "You love to be in charge of me"
"Oh I certainly do love to be in charge of you" he kissed me on my neck. "But I love that you hate it and push back."
I shook myself and moved from his grasp.
"Stop it" I warned a smile playing on my lips.
"Let's get a coffee while we wait for the car."
"Yes let's" I agreed.
Tristan and I pulled up on what appeared to be a private airport where a single plane with the Devon group logo printed on it.
"Holy hell Tristan" I gasped as I was helped from the car. A male attendant was standing at the bottom of the planes stair.
"Afternoon Mr Devon , Miss Ash" he saluted us as Tristan led us up the stairs on to the private plane. The pilot came from the cockpit.
"Departure in about 30 minutes Mr Devon. " He addressed Tristan.
"Perfect Bob thanks" Tristan sat us in a plush beige seat mine was by the window. The air steward poured us two glasses of champagne. I took a long sip, from my window view I saw another town car pull up and an excited Lydia, Pam, Xander, Rebecca and James spilled on to the runway. The driver and stewards began to unload their bags as they were led onto the plane.
"Freya" Lydia screamed as she exploded on to the plane. "What the hell is going on?"
"Freya is being spontaneous" Tristan answered saving me from the fact I was just as confused.
"Freya doesn't do spontaneous" Lydia responded suspiciously.
"I'm as much in the dark as you are" I replied as she sat across from me with Pam.
When all was settled and the plane had rattled to life and we had been in the air about twenty minutes the pilots voice came over the intercom.
" Welcome to your flight from the crew and myself. I'm the pilot Bob and our estimated flight time is 5 hours and twenty minutes. Hope you are all feeling lucky for Las Vegas."
"OMG I'm going to Vegas" Lydia screeched. "OMG I'm going to pass out" she was fanning herself dramatically. I rolled my eyes and Tristan wrapped his arm over my shoulders pulling me close I rested my head on his chest.
"Tired?" Pam smirked.
"Shattered" I replied.
"I'll bet" she raised her eyebrows.
"Get your head out of the gutter we went to Quebec last night for dinner"
"What you took a plane to dinner?" Lydia asked "who are you?'
" We didn't take a plane to dinner" I answered.
"Knew it"
"We took Tristan's helicopter." I smugly added before closing my eyes and comfortably listening to his heart beat. I couldn't remember the last time I felt this content.
Before I knew it we had touched down and we're climbing into a waiting limo.
"Where are we staying?" Rebecca asked.
"We are staying in the sky Villa in the palms " Tristan answered.
"I can't cope this is too much" Pam now was having a meltdown.
"I thought we'd have dinner at Top Of The World and then head to a club" Tristan added. "Seeing as Lydia's the ultimate party girl I thought we'd party."
We pulled up outside the palms and were whisked inside, a young woman was waiting.
"Mr Devon so lovely to have you stay with us in the palms. Your room is ready complete with Butler and bar service. The dinner reservations are set for nine and your club VIP passes are in place. A car will be waiting at eight." She rushed as she led us to the lift area. We we're escorted up to a beautiful roof top penthouse Villa there was amazing views of the city. It was breath taking.
"Holy hell" Lydia screamed as she jumped fully clothed into the rooftop pool. The others were ordering drinks from the bar and joking around. I sat sipping a glass of wine in the sofa area watching on.
Tristan sat next to me.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"This Tristan it's too much. It's not my thing"
"I know it's not mine either. But occasionally I like to share the spoils. My father used to say when you live this life it's more fun to watch others experience it." He sighed as he watched the girls squeal in delighted as they debated about what celebraties would live like this.
"Freya I made the money to cover this trip before we had breakfast this morning. The Devon group is a multinational billion dollar empire and has been since I was born. I enjoy the finer things in life but I would rather be with you in an old cabin in the woods if you were comfortable." He whispered.
"Thanks" I smiled. I kissed him lightly.
"Let's get ready for dinner" he whispered back leading me to one of the huge bedrooms. My worries about the day ebbed away as Tristan kissed every inch of my body.
Afterwards I slipped on the sparkling gold backless cocktail dress and the matching shoes.
"Wow" Tristan smiled.
"Yeah it's very Vegas. " I replied.
"Mercy needs a raise" he laughed running his fingers down my exposed back. I swatted him away. I picked up my clutch and checked my phone mindlessly. There was a text from a number I didn't recognize.
Gambling with love so soon?
XXXX. -S-
I froze re reading the words.
"All ok?" Tristan asked. I jumped from the trance I was in.
I plastered a smile on my face
"Great let's go" I shoved my phone away into the clutch and closed it.
Pam, Lydia, Rebecca, James and Xander were all redressed in club clothes and still drinking. I took Lydia's martini from her hand.
"Pace yourself or you'll miss it"I warned taking a sip.
"Oh please you've seen me drink cheap wine out of a box?" She replied.
"Yup at a music festival in a field, not in a penthouse suite in Las Vegas." I replied.
"Let's go" Pam excitedly cried. Tristan held open the door and we all followed suit.
Dinner was fantastic and we all seemed to be in great form. Tristan seemed laid back and less stuck up then I had first perceived him to be. He was naturally charismatic and the others appeared at ease in his company.
"So we all ready for Kaos?" Tristan asked as he signaled to the waiter. The waiter approached and whispered to Tristan. He nodded and turned to me.
"It seems the paparazzi are outside"
"Okay" I replied.
"I have security we'll be okay" he smiled.
"I know I'm not afraid it was just unexpected the last time. I hadn't considered it. It's fine" I replied taking his hand.
The flashing from the camera was less daunting this time and we moved to the night club Tristan had a VIP area set up. I drank and danced the night away with Tristan and my friends.
I awoke the next morning in the hotel with Tristan sleeping soundly next to me. I reached out to check the time on my phone. There was a message I clicked on it and groggly read it. There was a picture of Tristan and I in the night club. We we're kissing.
Cosy cosy. Easy to forget me.

I climbed out of the huge bed and went into the shower. The hot water rushed over my head instantly I felt better. I was deep in thought when Tristan slipped into the shower behind me he startled me at first but soon my worries evaporated.
The flight home was quiet everyone was tired and hung over.
Lydia hadn't brushed her hair and was hiding behind a large pair of sun glasses. Tristan and I appeared fresh faced but I could tell the cocktail party the others had before dinner was now a regret of theirs.
We all got out of the town car outside my house. The others silently stomped up the steps having perfusely thanked Tristan for the weekend. We were left alone at the door step.
"Wish you could stay with me" Tristan smiled.
"I know but I'm taking Lydia to the airport in the morning and then I have to sort out a Ralph Lauren shoot." I replied.
"Busy busy." Tristan laughed. "I have a day tomorrow too but stop by mine after your done?"
"Okay" I agreed kissing him.
When I entered my room Lydia was lying on the bathroom floor.
"Oh Jesus. I'm dying"
"Was it worth it?" I asked.
"It was so worth it. I partied in Las Vegas like Britney on a bender. "
"Charming" I muttered. Lydia was still talking but I tuned her out as my blood ran cold. On my pillow was a Las Vegas souvenir deck of cards and a poker chip from the Palms Casino. A typed note read
Hit the jackpot in Las Vegas?

Lydia had dragged herself from the bathroom and was taking in my shocked face.
"What?" She asked. "Freya what is going on?"
She knew about the flowers so I showed her the texts, and the deck and casino chip on my bed.
"This is serious now Freya this person was in your room."
"I know"
"You need to tell the police or Tristan"
"Tristan?"
"Your a billionaires girlfriend Freya. Come on get a clue" she snapped.
"And that means what?"
"Someone's stalking you since you started dating him. They kidnap you and I reckon there is a nice ransom"
"Oh come on Lydia this isn't Hollywood or CSI. Things like that don't happen girls like us"
"Girls like us? What kind of girls are we Freya?"
"Come on Lydia it's not a corny Hollywood movie broken hearted Irish country farm girl takes off the big city in New York, meets a dashing billionaire becomes a princess overnight and runs off it to the sunset."
"Or maybe your just a farmers daughter who had a tragedy in her life like lots others. Took a job and met a business man. My boyfriend is successful I would like to think in two years I'll have my dream home and be comfortable paying my bills how's that different?" She asked
"It just is."
"No Freya you never ever gave yourself credit for anything. You feel you don't deserve Tristan or happiness after Sean"
"Not true" I yelled.
"Yeah it is true good old fashioned Irish guilt. Join a convent and think of Sean as the weeping widow" she yelled back.
"Wow" I was shocked
"What scares you Freya?" She pushed. "I know because I see it."
"See what?"
"You love Tristan and despite yourself you can't help but feel for him, you want him. I see it on your eyes."
"Lydia you can be such a bitch." I was angry.
"Why? Why what makes me a b***h. I never took your crap and I'm not going to now. Tristan is perfectly nice and congratulations you found your future"
I threw back the duvet and climbed in.
"I'm not fighting Lydia. Your my best friend and you go home tomorrow let's just get some rest."
She climbed into the bed next to me.
"Tell Tristan, you have to"
"I will tomorrow after work I'm meeting him" I sighed.
"Thank you. Night Freya"
"Night Lydia"
