Chapter Eight
Lily's POV
Rivaled Love
Irina kept speaking in a much lower tone. Even though my mind was searching for the truth and I was beginning to see beyond all her usual soft-spoken words.
“Then I had to tell him that you went to look for Phil that night, but nothing happened, and you were really mad when you saw Phil in school and he wasn't speaking to you. I would not do anything to jeopardize the friendship we have by coming between you and your dad."
“I didn't say you will do that.” I force a smile with just my lips. It fades faster than I wanted it to.
While she was speaking, I noticed that my dad's car keys were still in her hands.
Really, I did not want to seem like I was trying to be in her skin, but I just couldn't understand why so many things were playing out in a twist. Like I'm missing something.
The key she has in her hand contains a key to my dad's office. It being in her hands this long just didn't add up for some reason.
I point at the key and look her in the eyes. “You know you shouldn't be having his keys, right? Are you sure you don't have anything to tell me?”
Even though I'm not sure of what I'm perceiving, I'm more certain that I don't want whatever it is I'm thinking to be the truth.
Irina plays with the key, shaking it in a very unbothered manner. “Oh, you mean this? Nah, he just gave them to me while I was on my way upstairs to drop them on his table with the car keys.”
She didn't think much as she spoke, so I knew she wasn't lying to me. I actually hoped she wasn't.
"Fair," I smiled.
“I'd go and drop it now.” She pats my thigh before standing up and walking out of my room.
I watch her hips as they swing while she heads for the door.
“You need to get these thoughts out of your head!” I smack my forehead because it's really nothing, and I can't tell why I'm trying to read meaning into almost everything.
I take a deep breath in and out.
The mornings that followed were brighter than I had expected.
Damon had helped me to get a new helmet. He really fixes many things in my life even without me asking for help. He fathers me so much more in his actions than my dad.
I haven't parked my bike when the specific loud roar of Andre's engine fills the air, getting the attention of everyone like it usually does.
At this point, it's not more about the engine but the anticipation that everyone just gets to behold Andre's presence.
I wonder if it's beginning to have an effect on me.
“Never!”
I hold back and continue hanging my helmet properly on my bike.
“Hey, Cutie!” Rex walks over to me with the most annoying words ever. He knows I hate those words, perhaps that's why he loves using them to torment me. He is the patrol leader in the Moon Howl Pack.
I roll my eyes before turning in his direction. “I know you have a word use problem despite how much schooling you've been through, but you know, being a bigger person. I'd let you have it.”
His sharp jaw and really pretty blue eyes catch the attention of many girls beside me.
I glare at his soft smiling face so he can be aware that I'm not interested in whatever he has going on even though I have told him severally, but he wouldn't listen.
“I know you like it, but you'd just rather be a tough teddy.” He added and laughed. Adjusting his bag as he speaks.
I ignore him and throw my bag around me before walking towards the hallway.
Rex walks close to me like I am the territory he is supposed to be guarding.
“I’m sure Kegan didn't ask you to protect Lily in this manner. If only you learned to do your one job the right way, the Moon Howl wouldn't be scared or, would I say, too feeble for the Bloodfangs to get into.” Andre says to Rex as he walks close to us.
I didn't even know when he moved from just arriving to us being in the midst of his pack, which followed closely behind us like a troop.
Rex was physically boiling, but he knew too well to not be stirred by Andres if he didn't want unnecessary issues that Alpha Kegan wouldn't want to know.
Andre turns to me and smiles, “I mean, I know it's your dad's pack, but you're so different. Don't let losers get between your legs.”
Now that was the height of it for me.
The hell?
I stop walking and glare at him.
Despite being infuriated, I couldn't help the fact that I couldn't act out in public or try anything funny because a part of me was scared of what he would do.
Rex stood firm in front of me, ready to protect me.
I really didn't want anybody to feel responsible for me, so I stood behind him and faced Andres.
“You should be very mindful of how you speak to me.” I say firmly. His eyes locked with mine, and even though he frightens me, I try to hold still.
I look at myself with a fierce gaze, and everyone around us freezes in unknown knowledge of what would happen next.
Many were already fearful on my behalf because no one speaks to Andres like that and walks away freely.
Not even a female.
I tried to get away from him, but the walkway was so covered by his pack that we couldn't walk freely without them letting us through.
His fierce gaze slowly fades as his lips widen into a smile.
“Isn't this just really nice to see? A one in a million bold expression.” He spoke sarcastically to his beta, Jake.
