Chapter Nine Clarence walked boldly across the dungeon floor. He stopped to say a quick prayer over the man stretched out on the rack writhing in pain. He moved past two guards wrestling another prisoner into a high backed wooden chair that was suspended from the ceiling. A third guard lay sleeping near the far door. He moved directly for the third guard and leaned over as if to examine him. A sharp crack on the head from Clarence’s staff assured the guard was unconscious. Clarence turned and waved at the other two guards and asked, “Why have you left this guard’s dead body here among the criminals?” The guards turned to stare at him in confusion. “He’s sleeping you fool.” The taller guard said then turned back to secure the prisoner’s arms to the chair. “No, he’s not.” Clarence insist
