The office is beginning to empty.
Logan sits at her desk, reviewing a stack of documents.
Her phone lights up.
She glances at it.
Nothing.
She returns to her work.
A few seconds later—
BUZZ.
She looks again.
A message from Kyle.
KYLE (TEXT)
You survived the day?
Logan smiles despite herself.
LOGAN (TEXT)
Barely.
Three dots appear.
KYLE (TEXT)
Need rescuing?
She looks around the quiet office.
LOGAN (TEXT)
Depends. What's your hourly rate?
His reply comes quickly.
KYLE (TEXT)
For you? Free.
Logan pauses.
The smile fades into something softer.
She types.
Deletes.
Types again.
LOGAN (TEXT)
Careful.
KYLE (TEXT)
Why?
She stares at the screen.
Before she can answer—
MAYA (O.S.)
You know, most people actually work when they're at work.
Logan quickly locks her phone.
Maya stands beside the desk, amused.
LOGAN
I am working.
MAYA
Sure.
Maya looks at Logan.
Then at the phone.
Then back at Logan.
MAYA
Who's Kyle?
Logan's expression changes.
Just slightly.
LOGAN
A friend.
Maya smiles.
MAYA
You said that very quickly.
LOGAN
Because it's true.
MAYA
I didn't say it wasn't.
Maya walks away.
Logan watches her go.
Her phone BUZZES again.
She looks.
KYLE (TEXT)
You disappeared.
Logan smiles.
LOGAN (TEXT)
Someone interrupted me.
KYLE (TEXT)
Should I be offended?
LOGAN (TEXT)
You'd survive.
A beat.
KYLE (TEXT)
Probably.
Then another message.
KYLE (TEXT)
Dinner?
Logan's fingers hover over the screen.
She looks toward the office doors.
She should say no.
She's tired.
She has work tomorrow.
She has a hundred reasonable excuses.
Instead—
LOGAN (TEXT)
Okay.
She sends it before she can change her mind.
Almost immediately:
KYLE (TEXT)
Okay?
Logan smiles.
LOGAN (TEXT)
Don't make me regret it.
KYLE (TEXT)
Wouldn't dream of it.
Logan puts the phone down.
She leans back in her chair.
For the first time, she looks less guarded.
Almost hopeful.
CUT TO:
EXT. OFFICE BUILDING — EVENING
Logan steps outside.
Kyle's car is parked across the street.
He gets out when he sees her.
He doesn't wave dramatically.
Just smiles.
Logan walks toward him.
They stop a few feet apart.
KYLE
Hi.
LOGAN
Hi.
A beat.
Neither moves.
Then Kyle notices something in her hand.
KYLE
You brought work?
Logan looks down at the folder.
LOGAN
Maybe.
Kyle gently takes it from her.
KYLE
Not tonight.
She looks at him.
LOGAN
You planning on kidnapping me?
KYLE
Dinner.
LOGAN
That's suspiciously close.
He smiles.
She does too.
Kyle opens the passenger door for her.
Logan pauses before getting in.
She looks at him.
LOGAN
Thank you.
Kyle nods.
Nothing more.
She gets into the car.
As he closes the door, Logan watches him through the window.
That same quiet feeling from yesterday returns.
Only this time, she's not afraid of it.
CUT TO BLACK.
