SCENE 2INT. UPSCALE BUSINESS HOTEL — LOBBY — LATE MORNING

The lobby is elegant but busy.
Businesspeople move through the space, phones ringing and conversations overlapping.
LOGAN enters through the main doors, dressed professionally, a folder tucked beneath her arm and
her phone pressed against her ear.
LOGAN I'm not changing the numbers because they're uncomfortable.
She listens as she walks.
LOGAN No. The projection is based on the figures we have. If they want a different result, they need to
give us different information.
She checks her watch.
LOGAN I'll be upstairs in five minutes. Have the revised documents ready when I get there.
She ends the call.
Logan opens her folder while walking.
One document slips out and lands on the floor behind her.
She doesn't notice.
A few seconds later, KYLE, early thirties, well-dressed and composed, walks past.
He notices the paper.
He picks it up and looks around.
His eyes settle on Logan.
KYLE Excuse me.
She doesn't hear him.
KYLE Excuse me!
Logan turns.
LOGAN Yes?

Kyle holds up the document.
KYLE I think you dropped this.
Logan immediately recognizes it.
LOGAN Oh.
She walks back toward him.
LOGAN Thank you.
She takes the document.
KYLE You're welcome.
Logan quickly places it back inside her folder.
LOGAN I really appreciate that.
KYLE No problem.
She gives him a polite nod and starts walking away.
KYLE You were moving pretty fast.
Logan turns.
LOGAN I have a meeting.
KYLE I figured.
LOGAN How?
Kyle gestures toward the elevator.
KYLE The way you walked in here.
Logan looks at him for a moment.
LOGAN Was it that obvious?
KYLE A little.
She gives a small smile.
LOGAN Well, I am late.
KYLE Then I should probably stop talking.

LOGAN Probably.
Kyle smiles.
Logan turns toward the elevator.
Kyle follows a few steps behind.
The elevator doors open.
They both step inside.
Logan presses her floor.
Kyle presses another.
They stand on opposite sides of the elevator.
A moment of silence.
Then—
KYLE I hope your meeting goes well.
Logan looks at him.
LOGAN Thank you.
KYLE Important meeting?
LOGAN Very.
KYLE Then I'll wish you luck and leave you alone.
Logan smiles faintly.
LOGAN That's probably wise.
KYLE Probably.
The elevator moves upward.
Logan's phone vibrates.
She checks it.
Kyle glances at his own phone.
KYLE Work never stops, does it?

Logan looks up.
LOGAN Apparently not.
KYLE Same here.
LOGAN What do you do?
KYLE Business.
LOGAN That's vague.
Kyle smiles.
KYLE I was trying not to sound boring.
LOGAN And did it work?
KYLE No?
Logan laughs softly.
LOGAN Not really.
KYLE Fair enough.
He extends his hand.
KYLE Kyle.
Logan looks at his hand, then shakes it.
LOGAN Logan.
KYLE Nice to meet you, Logan.
LOGAN Nice to meet you too.
The elevator stops.
The doors open.
Kyle steps out, then turns back.
KYLE Good luck with the meeting.
LOGAN Thank you.
He starts walking.

After a moment, he turns back.
KYLE And keep a better grip on those papers.
Logan looks down at her folder.
She smiles.
LOGAN I'll try.
KYLE Good.
He walks away.
Logan watches him for a brief moment.
Then she looks at the elevator doors.
A small, unexpected smile appears on her face.
She quickly shakes it off.
Her phone vibrates again.
She looks at it.
Back to work.
The elevator doors close.
