Sunlight cuts through the tall windows.
Coffee machines hiss behind the counter. Cups clink. Low conversation fills the room.
Kyle sits at a window table, two coffees already waiting.
His eyes flick to the entrance.
The door opens.
Logan steps inside, casual but polished, handbag over one shoulder.
Kyle's face breaks into an involuntary smile.
He stands.
KYLE
You came.
LOGAN
I said I'd think about it.
KYLE
I know.
He pulls out the chair.
Logan sits.
Kyle pushes it in gently before taking his own seat.
Her eyes settle on the second coffee.
LOGAN
You ordered for me?
KYLE
I took a chance.
1
Logan lifts the cup.
One sip.
A tiny nod.
LOGAN
Good choice.
Kyle settles back, satisfied.
KYLE
I was under pressure.
LOGAN
From who?
KYLE
You.
LOGAN
I wasn't even here.
KYLE
Exactly. Very difficult customer.
Her laugh slips out before she can stop it.
A WAITER approaches.
WAITER
Good morning. Anything else for you?
Kyle looks to Logan.
She shakes her head.
KYLE
We're good.
The waiter leaves.
2
Logan glances around the café.
LOGAN
This is nice.
KYLE
That's why I picked it.
LOGAN
You come here often?
KYLE
When I need somewhere quiet.
A burst of laughter comes from another table.
Kyle points toward it.
KYLE
Usually quieter than this.
LOGAN
So I'm ruining your peaceful morning?
KYLE
Not yet.
Logan gives him a warning look.
Kyle grins.
KYLE
I'm kidding.
She takes another sip.
Kyle's phone buzzes.
He pulls it from his pocket.
Three notifications.
3
He reads the first line, locks the screen, and places the phone face down.
Logan notices.
Her own phone buzzes inside her handbag.
She reaches for the bag.
Stops.
Her hand falls away.
Kyle says nothing.
He lifts his coffee.
KYLE
Look at us.
LOGAN
What?
KYLE
Two people pretending they don't have work.
Logan smiles.
LOGAN
I'm not pretending.
KYLE
Right.
He takes a drink.
She gives him a look over the rim of her cup.
LOGAN
You're starting already.
KYLE
Starting what?
4
LOGAN
The charm.
Kyle nearly chokes on his coffee.
KYLE
I wasn't aware I had charm.
LOGAN
You clearly think you do.
KYLE
That's enough for me.
The corner of Logan's mouth lifts.
Kyle notices.
He doesn't mention it.
Instead, he reaches into his jacket and pulls out a small notebook.
Logan's eyes drop to it.
LOGAN
You carry a notebook?
Kyle opens it.
Handwritten pages. Quick sketches. Short lists.
KYLE
Sometimes.
Logan leans forward slightly.
LOGAN
What's all that?
KYLE
Ideas.
5
He turns a page.
A list of cities.
Another page.
Restaurants.
Another.
Things he wants to learn.
LOGAN
You plan everything?
KYLE
Not everything.
He closes the notebook.
KYLE
Just the things I don't want to forget.
That catches Logan's attention.
She holds his gaze for a second.
Then reaches for her coffee.
LOGAN
You said you play basketball.
Kyle nods.
KYLE
When I can.
LOGAN
Are you actually good?
Kyle slowly puts his cup down.
KYLE
6
That's what you took from everything I just showed you?
LOGAN
It's an important question.
KYLE
I'm very good.
LOGAN
Confident.
KYLE
Honest.
Logan laughs.
Kyle points at her.
KYLE
That sounded like a challenge.
LOGAN
Maybe it was.
He shakes his head, amused.
KYLE
We'll see.
A server passes with a tray.
Kyle shifts his chair slightly to give her room.
Logan notices.
She settles back.
KYLE
You said you travel.
LOGAN
7
I do.
KYLE
Where's your favorite?
LOGAN
Paris.
Kyle nods.
KYLE
Twice?
Logan looks at him.
LOGAN
How did you know?
KYLE
You mentioned it at the hotel.
She smiles.
LOGAN
You really do remember things.
KYLE
Useful information.
She laughs.
LOGAN
Don't start.
Kyle raises both hands in surrender.
KYLE
Okay.
He takes another drink.
8
KYLE
For me, I'd pick somewhere nobody knows me.
LOGAN
Why?
Kyle looks through the window.
People hurry along the sidewalk.
Cars move through the intersection.
KYLE
No meetings. No calls. No one asking me to fix something.
He looks back at her.
KYLE
Just a few days where I can be completely useless.
Logan laughs.
LOGAN
You'd enjoy being useless?
KYLE
For a weekend? Absolutely.
LOGAN
Where?
Kyle thinks.
KYLE
Somewhere quiet.
LOGAN
That's not a place.
KYLE
9
I'm still working on that part.
She shakes her head.
LOGAN
Terrible planning.
KYLE
Only vacations.
LOGAN
Convenient.
The laughter fades.
Neither reaches for a phone.
Neither checks the time.
Kyle's hand rests beside his coffee.
Logan's fingers trace the edge of her cup.
The silence doesn't feel uncomfortable.
Kyle finally glances at his watch.
Then at her.
KYLE
I should probably let you get on with your day.
Logan looks toward the door.
Then back at him.
LOGAN
You don't have to.
Kyle pauses.
A smile.
KYLE
10
I know.
He stays.
Logan smiles.
Her phone buzzes again.
This time she takes it out.
The screen lights up with work messages.
She stares at it.
Then switches it to silent and slips it back into her bag.
Kyle watches the bag disappear beneath the table.
He smiles but says nothing.
Logan catches it.
LOGAN
What?
KYLE
Nothing.
LOGAN
You smiled.
KYLE
Did I?
LOGAN
Yes.
KYLE
Must have been the coffee.
She rolls her eyes.
LOGAN
11
You're impossible.
Kyle picks up his notebook.
KYLE
I'll accept that.
He stands.
Logan rises with him.
They move toward the door.
Kyle reaches it first and holds it open.
Logan steps outside.
He follows.
They fall into step beside each other without thinking about it.
LOGAN
So when am I seeing this basketball talent?
Kyle looks at her.
KYLE
You really want to see?
LOGAN
I want proof.
He laughs.
KYLE
Then I suppose I have something to prove.
Logan smiles.
They continue down the sidewalk together.
Neither notices how naturally the distance between them has disappeared.
CUT TO BLACK.
