Dana fought to keep still when she heard Maverick’s bike pull up in front of the house. It seemed to take hours from the time he killed the engine until he came in the front door. The keys hit the table beside her purse, and he called her name. “In here.” She barely raised her voice for fear he would hear it shake. She knotted her hands together in her lap so he wouldn’t see them tremble. She had bought the dress a few months earlier, wishing she’d had someone to wear it for, someone who might like it as much as she did. And she had worn it. For herself.
