Maverick couldn’t remember the last time he was this content just to stand and stare at nothing. He didn’t feel like he needed to entertain Dana, but he didn’t want to take her home. Not yet. He liked just being in her company, neither of them had to be doing or saying anything. There weren’t many people Maverick was content to just be with. Some of his brothers fit into the category but only a few. Not even half of the Souls belonged. Snake and Boomer were on the list. He could deal with Bubba, but he wasn’t Maverick’s favorite person. When he’d left Tucson there were a couple others on the list, but it had been two years and clearly a lot had changed around here since then. Who knew what they would be like now? Dana shifted in his arms, drawing Maverick’s attention back to the present.
