Midnight Kitchen Race

SOPHIE’S POV:

“No we are not!” Trisha exclaimed while standing up from the couch.

I giggled. “Come on, T. There’s no way you two are not dating. I can see how you two look at each other. There’s llllloooovvvveeee!”

She rolled her eyes and sat down. “Oh please, he doesn’t even like me.”

“Wanna hear a secret?”

She gave me a suspicious stare, “Sure..?” She said hesitantly.

“Luke told me he likes you back.”

Trisha blushed at my remark. “Really?”

I nodded at her.

There was a sudden honk outside.

“It must be them.” We both stood up to check it.

I informed my parents that the three of them will sleep in the house while I was waiting for Trisha to finish up filling her bag with her clothes. They were delighted by that.

Tyler came out of the driver’s seat. “Hey ladies, I hope we didn’t make you wait long.”

I and Trisha laughed.

Luke went out of the passenger’s seat with an annoyed look. He spotted me and smirked. “You didn’t crash my car, did you?”

I rolled my eyes at him and threw him his key which he perfectly caught. “Come in.” I invited them inside.

One of the maids met with me, “Ms., were done preparing the two guest rooms.”

Smiling and nodding at them, I bid my, “Thank you.”

“I’ll show you your rooms. Follow me.” They followed behind me.

Trisha’s sleeping with me in my room.

We went upstairs and turned right where the rooms were. “It’s between these two. I’ll let you two decide.” I pointed at the room next to my sister’s and the room by the end of the hallway, right in front of mine.

“I’ll just take the one by the end.” Luke spoke up.

I nodded. “I’ll let you guys settle down. Come down the theater room after.”

They nodded and proceeded in their rooms so I and Trisha went down the theater room.

I looked down at my watch, 17:32.

Sitting down on one of the velvet seats, I played Anabelle.

“Seriously, S? Horror? Can’t we watch anything not scary?” Trisha followed and sat on the seat to my left with a popcorn. She gave me another box of popcorn, “that’s for the guys.” So I put it on the seat on my right.

“I read the reviews, they said it’s not that scary.” I reached for a popcorn on her lap.

She groaned. “Fine.” I can only laugh.

Five minutes in the movie, someone sat on the seat on my right. I looked over who it was, it’s Luke. On his lap was the popcorn I put a while ago. He winked at me. I stick my tongue out and looked for Tyler. I saw him sitting next to Trisha.

Oh well, can’t complain for those two. The four of us continued watching.

There was a jump scare when the girl was by the well and I saw Luke flinch. “You okay there, kitty?” I whispered. “Scared of a little jump scare? Not so tough now, huh?”

He glared at me, “Shut up. It just caught me off guard.”

I laughed lightly. Looking over at Tyler and Trisha who seemed liked they’re already cuddling each other.

And they’re not dating with that?

“Want a cuddle too, Cherry?” Luke said from behind me. “Kidding. They should just date each other.” He whispered so close in my ear, it sent goose bumps all over my body.

“Y-yeah.” I blushed and stuttered.

My heart was beating so fast and my face is burning. I stood up and grabbed a soda from the fridge.

Luke was suddenly beside me. “What’s wrong, Cherry?” He asked.

That startled me so it made me jump a bit. “N-nothing. I just feel hot.”

He walked past me and examined the little bar. He grabbed a wine glass and poured some for him.

I was eyeing him the entire moment.

“Want some?” He asked so I shook my head no.

We finished two horror movies before all four of us decided to just sleep already since it’s a school night.

Trisha’s fast asleep right next to me and I couldn’t sleep. I opened my phone to check the time, 23:57.

Sighing, I sat up and get out of bed slowly, making sure not to wake Trisha. She was scared when we decided to fall asleep and it took us a long time for her to fall asleep so I can’t wake her up.

I went to the kitchen, opened the fridge and poured myself some milk.

“Can’t sleep too?” A voice said behind me. "You beat me going to the kitchen first." I know that voice.

“Yup.” I turned to look at Luke. “Milk?” I asked, showing him the box of milk.

He shook his head, “I’ll have a water, please.”

I poured him some water and gave it to him.

Taking a sip at my milk, I asked him, “Too scared to fall asleep?”

He gave out a low chuckle. “Let’s just say I am.”

I laughed with him. “Let’s go outside.”

We went in the backyard and sat there, enjoying the dark night.

“What if Anabelle shows up?” I asked.

“Oh shut up.” He huffed.

He’s such a cat.

There was a comfortable silence between us. We just simply enjoyed the night.

“Luke?” I called his name.

“Hmm?”

I let out a breath. “When we met each other the first time inside the gym, did you know me?”

He clicked his tongue. “Nah.” I can tell he’s not telling the truth because he was hesitant.

“You said I’ve changed.” I turned to look at him.

He noticed I was looking at him so he met my gaze. He looked into my eyes for a few seconds before gazing back to the sky.

I waited for his answer.

He sighed. “13 years ago, the 13th of August. I and Tyler was left by the car because mom and dad was taking care of something. We got bored so we decided to play hide and seek in the neighborhood. We weren’t familiar with the place so on my way finding him, I got lost. I met a pregnant lady with a suitcase. It looked heavy so I offered to help her. The street was abandoned and so was the house we stopped by. She offered me a drink as a thank you which I gladly accepted. She probably put something in the drink that got me unconscious. When I woke up, I was inside the abandoned house and as it turns out, the lady was not pregnant. A few hours later, she came back with a little girl around my age, and just like me, she was kidn*pped too.” He looked into my tearful eyes. “We were there for three days. The lady killed herself in the end which made us a way to escape the hell hole. We went in the nearest station to report. I was lucky I get to ask the little girl’s name. Its-..”

I stood up. “Persophonie Duval.” I finished for him as a tear rolled down my eyes.
