"Are you a f*****g i***t, Helena?!" Liam yelled.
A belt hit her across her back. She yelped in pain as tears ran down her cheeks. She turned around and looked at him, her eyes pleading with him to stop.
"Please no, dad-" She tried talking, but was cut off by two more hits- this time to her chest and stomach. She fell to the ground and cried harder as she felt blood seep from her shirt.
"You are such an i***t! You f*****g go out and fly around, thinking nothing is going to happen! Someone could see you! You shouldn't even have those... CURSED THINGS on your back! You're a freak! Freak! A freak, a freak, a freak!" He shouted.
Each time he said freak, he hit her with the belt. She started crying more. She tried to get up, but he kept hitting her. When he took a break to swallow more whiskey, she got up and tried running out the front door, but he was too fast and caught her wrist. A smirk played across his lips.
"Just where do you think you're going, you wretched thing? You're MINE!" He snapped.
He dragged her back to the kitchen, whipping her over and over. She begged him to stop once again, but all she could see was despise and hatred in his eyes. The belt came down once again, hitting her the hardest he's ever hit her.
Helena woke up screaming as sweat dripped down her body. Paranoid, she quickly lifted up her tank top to make sure she wasn't bleeding. A sigh of relief escaped her mouth when she realized she wasn't, and she fell back on her bed. She left her shirt lifted, running her fingers along the multiple giant scars that were formed on her body as a reminder of what a freak she was.
Xander was tossing around in his bed. He sat up from his bed, tossing off the blanket as he tried to calm himself down. He kept thinking about that chaotic day.
Xander was a young boy, looking no older than 10. However, since he was a vampire, no one truly knew his age. He was dressed in a more older style of clothing. It seemed to look medieval or victorian. He was with his sister Laura, playing a game of tag. Suddenly a large mob of humans barged into their coven base.
"Kill them! Kill the vampires!" Was all everyone heard.
Xander grabbed his little sister's hand and ran off to find a place to hide. He hid behind a house that was nearby, hoping that the humans didn't find them. They both were lucky for a while, before he heard a human from behind them.
"What do we have here? Two little scared vampire brats?" He muttered.
The man grabbed Xander and his sister, bringing them to the mob. Xander was chained up immediately and beaten brutally. His sister was beaten just as badly but Xander was forced to watch them beat her.
"Stop it! Please!" Xander yelled as he heard his sister's cries as she was beaten.
He was struck once again but this time with a sword, and to his back.
"Silence, you vampire filth!" The human snapped.
Fresh blood flowed down his back as he watched his sister take the beating. Then everything went black for him. He awoke to the sounds of his sister in pain. He opened his eyes and saw the humans ravaging her. He went mad with rage as he tried to pry the chains off his bloodied wrists.
Xander snapped out of it due to Helena's scream and jumped out of bed. He rushed to her door.
"Helena, it's me. Is everything alright?" He called out.
Helena heard his voice but when she tried to speak, she couldn't.
"Mhm," Was all she could mumble.
She felt tears roll down her cheeks as she stared up at the ceiling. She continued tracing her scars and flinched, remembering the pain that came with them. She moved her shirt up more so she could look down at them.
I'll make him pay, damn it! He did this... He put permanent scars on my body! He did this...
She looked over at the window to her left, closing her eyes. She didn't want to face Xander, she didn't want to see him because she knew he'd ask questions about why she screamed. She just laid there, hoping he'd go away.
He heard her low whimper but opted not to barge into her room.
"Alright. If you need anything, all you need to do is ask,"he said as he left her door, making his way back to his room.
He sat down on his bed, sighing heavily.
"Laura, what should I do? Mother, father, tell me how to lead this coven," He pleaded quietly as he laid his head down.
Slowly drifting into sleep, his mind went back to that day again. Tears slowly began to fall down his face, as he mumbled in his sleep.
Meanwhile, Helena stared at the window a few more minutes before making a decision.
"I can't stay here... I need to go back home," she muttered.
She slowly got up and started looking for a pen and paper. Finding no such thing in her room, she tiptoed into the living room and looked for it. She found a pen on a shelf, then grabbed a napkin out of the kitchen.
"Xander,
Don't follow me. I'm sorry I can't stay here. I hope you have better luck getting revenge on the humans, but I'm not the one to start with. I'm sorry, Xander. Maybe we can meet again some other time. But for now, this is goodbye.
Sincerely, Helena," she read as she wrote it out.
As she sat it on the coffee table, her heart seemed to break while she read the last line over and over again. She shook it off and went back to her room to change into the clothes she was wearing when Xander found her. After she changed, she walked outside and breathed in the cool air.
"I'm coming back, Liam, I want answers," she mumbled.
She spread her wings and took flight, heading back to her foster home.
