Our pack was one of the largest in the country, and as such we had a pretty big pack house. But even so it wasn't big enough to fit everyone.
So my parents had arranged some temporary units to be brought in to house the visiting warriors.
The third Alpha to arrive was one of the oldest, according to my sister, who had studied up on them all and would mind link us their info so that we could use it in our introductions.
His mate, and Luna had passed away several years earlier, so he was one of the few unmated Alphas.
He was heavier set but not in an athletic way, with greasy brown hair speckled with grey.
I wasn't really paying attention until he got to me and I greeted him, I instantly got bad vibes from him, I swear he looked me up and down and his smile was creeping me out no end. As soon as he was out of sight I shuddered feeling super grossed out.
Just then a black range rover pulled up.
As the doors opened his scent hit me and my stomach burst into butterfly's.
I looked around for Jess for moral support but she must of been hosting as she wasn't there.
When he stepped out of the SUV my heart started pounding.
Get a grip Layla, I thought to myself. Then Clairs voice started in all our heads.
'This is Alpha Dante of the Jade Mountain pack, he became the youngest ever Alpha, took that title from you Dad, after his father passed 6 months ago.
I didn't hear any more. I nearly fell over when she said Alpha. That's why I recognised his name.
He was an Alpha, what the f**k, he made out he was a warrior in the club last night. I was internally freaking out when my fathers voice snapped me back to reality.
"Alpha Dante," my father boomed and he reached out to shake his hand.
"I am so very sorry about your father's passing. I am so glad you are here though. I myself was a young Alpha and your father provided me with some great guidance at my first conference. I hope I am able to repay the favour for you".
Dante smiled back at my dad.
"It's nice to meet you Alpha Ambrose, and thank you very much".
"Please please, call me Antonio, and this is my lovely mate and Luna, Bianca, our eldest daughter Claire and her mate Tim, our son and future Alpha Branden and youngest Daughter Layla".
Dante shook everyone's hand, giving my mother a kiss on the cheek. He congratulated my sister and Tim on the pending arrival of their first pup, and made a joke about not giving my sister a kiss so as not to upset her protective mate.
Mated males were known to be extra protective of their mates when they were pregnant.
Then he turned to Brandon.
"Nice to see you again Brandon" he said shaking his hand like they were old buddies, "glad you all got home safe after the run in with the rogues last night."
"I'm sorry", my mother interjected, "last night" she said questioningly to Dante
"Yes", Dante continued, "My warriors and I ran into Brandon, Layla and Jess I believe it was, last night at one of the clubs in the city. We had arrived a day early and spent the night in a hotel".
If looks could kill my mother would of just murdered her two youngest children.
"Ah how lovely," she said through gritted teeth.
Dad's voice entered our heads with an angry tone.
"I don't care if you guys want to go out but we will be talking about the rogues later".
By this point Dante had turned to greet me. I felt like the world stood still for a moment as we looked into each other's eyes.
The sight of him was much much more impressive in the light of day. I couldn't help but begin to feel turned on by his mere presence.
"Layla" he nodded with an almost cheeky grin as he gently took my hand, and planted a gentle kiss on my cheek.
It was hard not to gasps at the instant sparks that flew between us where our skin had touched.
As we released our hands Jess came up beside me.
"Dante" she said with a smile, "Nice to see you again. One of our lovely hosts will show you to your room"
"Alpha Dante" Claire interrupted her.
It was customary to address ranked pack members using their title and last name, or first name with you were close with them.
I saw the realisation on Jess's face.
"Alpha, I'm,I'm so sorry", she stammered. "Umm, please f,f follow me and I will show you to your room."
She directed Carl and Alex to another host before walking into the pack house with Dante.
After the final Alpha and his entourage had arrived, and Brandon and I had gotten a lecture from my mother, and debriefed dad about the rogues, I rushed back to my room. Meeting Jess at my door.
"He's a f*****g Alpha, Jess I'm freaking out."
"Your going to be a Luna", she said quietly.
"Not helping Jess"
"Sorry" she said.
I was pacing around my room.
"Why do I turn into such a blithering mess in front of him" I sighed.
"I didn't even say a word when he arrived today. That's not me"
Jess laughed,
"Because he's your mate. It's normal to be nervous about that"
"Ahhh" I groaned in frustration.
"This is not how I imagined meeting my mate would go at all, and why didn't he say he was an Alpha."
"I'm sure there is a good explanation girl. You just gotta talk to him."
"I'm such a mess around him, he's going to think I'm this dipshit little girl and reject me."
Jess laughed.
"He will not, he's your mate, he will be wanting to jump your bones and claim you as his."
"Doesn't feel like it" I sighed as I flopped down on my bed.
I was usually such a confident person, I hated feeling so nervous.
"Did he say anything to you when you showed him to his room" I queried.
"He had realised he dropped you and Brandon in it, and insisted I call him Dante, not Alpha, that was about it. The rest was just small talk. He seems like a good guy though."
Thankfully I soon had plenty to take my mind off it. I got a mindlink from one of the Omegas who had an issue with one of the warriors rooms, followed quickly by my mother asking where I was.
After dealing with all the issues that had sprung up, I freshened up before heading down to lunch.
I had just entered the dining hall, and spied Jess on the far side talking to a group of visiting warriors and Alphas, Dante included, who had a giant smile on his face talking to Jess.
I was hoping they weren't talking about me, and felt instantly jealous she had made him smile. I tried to shake it off when he looked over in my direction and shot his sexy smile at me.
Just as I was about to pluck up some courage my mother came rushing over.
"Layla, where have you been"?
"s**t sorry mum I got caught up dealing with room issues"
"Nevermind that know, Claire is in the hospital"
"What" I interrupted a little two loudly causing some of the nearby people to turn and look at us
"Sshhhh," my mum scolded.
"Is she in labour" I wispered
"They aren't sure, but you should go there and report back to me. If she is in labour I'll skip lunch and come down ok."
"Yes yep of course no worries" I said already walking to the exist.
I rushed down to the hospital and found Claire and her mate in a private room, Claire hooked up to a few monitors.
Our hospital was only small, more of a medical centre, just big enough to serve our pack, but no where near the size of a human hospital.
"Are you ok" I asked a little flustered.
Claire laughed.
"Yes I'm fine calm down. It's a false labour, baby's not going anywhere,"
"And neither are you" Tim interjected.
"You heard the Dr, you need to take it easy for the rest of the pregnancy".
"I know darling, dont worry, I will," Claire reassured him
I mind linked my mum to let her know everything was ok and she could stay and host the welcome lunch, then waited with my sister while Tim went to get a car. It was only a short walk to the pack house but Tim said he didn't want to take any chances.
