Chapter One: The Crimson Moon Rises
The woods were eerily silent that evening. The kind of quiet that makes your hair stand up, not just the soft evening calm or the rustling leaves. Aria Bloodthorn was crouched on the border of her clan's land, her dagger gripped firmly, her senses on high alert. The boundary stones shone softly under the red moon, their old runes safeguarding the Bloodthorn Clan for ages. She took a deep whiff of the atmosphere. Something's different now. The smell of pine and moss had a hint of smoke in it. Cedar? And something darker, more intense. Her heart stopped." Aria, you're seriously just standing out here by yourself?" Rowan, her older brother, emerged from behind the trees, his voice a deep rumble. He was all muscle and instinct, his eyes scanning the shadowed treeline. “I smelled them first,” Aria replied, her voice steady despite the tremor she felt in her chest. “They’re close.”
Rowan’s jaw tightened. “Close enough to kill us?”
Before she could respond, someone stepped out from the dark. He's tall, wide, and intimidating, with eyes as dark as the night that seemed to cut right through her Kael Nightfall. The up-and-coming leader of the Nightfall Pack, Aria, told her, "You shouldn't be here," trying to come across as serious. Her dagger gleamed faintly in the crimson light. “And yet, here I am,” Kael said, his voice calm but carrying a dangerous edge. “You shouldn’t be here either.”
The wind started to blow stronger, making the leaves rustle in a soft, cautionary whistle. The moon lit up brighter, its red glow enveloping them both. A sharp, intense pain hit Aria like a bolt out of the blue. She gasped, hugging herself tight. Kael was stumbling, his hand clutching at his chest. "What—what's going on?" Rowan yelled, but Aria could barely catch his words. Then she got it The bond. The special connection between partners. It felt like fiery chains were clutching at her heart, tying her to the wolf she'd been taught to hate. Kael's jaw clenched, her dark eyes widening in shock. "No..." she murmured. Before anyone had a chance to say anything, the ground started shaking beneath their feet. The old stones shone more brightly, with cracks spreading across the forest like veins. A mysterious, otherworldly growl echoed from underground. The red moon got darker, like it was keeping an eye on things too. Rowan moved in front of her, his voice loud and urgent. "Nightfall!" he bellowed, his claws gleaming." Keep your distance from her
Kael didn’t move. His eyes were glued to hers." This isn't just a bond," he murmured, his voice barely audible." The Moon's done something else
A shadow emerged from the c***k, twisting and turning like smoke, pulsating with some weird, otherworldly power. Its red eyes fixed on them, and a roar ripped through the forest, deep and hungry Aria's breath hitched. The Moon tied them together, and whatever was coming up below could wipe everyone out if they weren't careful.
