TWENTY FOUR STEVE ARKIN rushed into the emergency room and to the front desk at the Bronx hospital. “D’Andre Walker, please.” A distracted middle-aged nurse typed and then shook her head. “No. Afraid not. He’s in critical condition.” “Just one minute.” Steve moved toward the swinging entrance doors. The nurse shifted to block his path. “Sir! I said no!” Steve froze before her. “Please. I won’t upset him. I promise. He'll want to see me.” She turned and peeked back through the rectangular windows into the ER. “...You go in one minute.
