Mate

639 Words
After fifth period, I rushed to the lunchroom. At my school, lunches were shared among classes. The seniors shared with the juniors and the sophomores, with the freshmen. This unfortunate reality meant that I had to see my brother for an extra hour of the day. The school day was set up this way so that there was more time for the guys of different packs to get as much training as possible. Sexist right? I know. “Hey girl”, I was suddenly shoved by a very excited Trina. I smiled as I shook my head at her cheesiness. She was more excited to meet my mate than I was, “Uneventful” “Awe”, she pouted with her arm still draped over me, “Well cheer up, there may be a couple prospects in here. If you don’t catch a break in here, at least you get to see all the potentials” Trina pinched my cheek and I rolled my eyes as I shrugged off her off. If it wasn’t obvious, the lunch room situation was Trinas favorite part of the day, as she could scout all the hot seniors. "Don’t be saucy" she laughed before shoving me into a locker and running into the cafe.  I huffed playfully and ran after her. Once I entered the cafeteria, an intoxicating scent swift pass my nose. MATE, My wolf chimed. He smelled like pine cones, pepper-mint, and...weed?  Mmm. As I looked around the cafe, I tried to find where the smell was coming from. I looked to my left which was the junior side and then to my right, where the seniors sat. The scent led me to my right.  'Ooh. A senior', My wolf mentally winked. The masculine scent grew as my pace quickened. It felt as though I were walking forever until I finally bumped into the chest of who it was coming from. My heart pounded in both excitement and fear. I knew I was going to meet my mate today, but it felt so surreal.  My eyes went from his chest to his eyes and mine almost popped out of my head when the realization hit. Of. f*****g. Course. "Lyndon?" There must have been a mistake. The Goddess must have been drunk when she created this pair. I stared in shock as he looked back at me. He must have been just as perplexed because his emotions seemed to reflect my own. Those beautiful brown orbs flickered black and I watched as his emotions went from shock, conflict, disappointment, to finally....calm? “Um-“, My attempt at saying something came out in a choke. It was as if my body felt my voice trying to escape and snapped my mouth back shut. What were you going to say anyway? Wait for him to speak.. It was quiet. Fear was beginning to overlap the feeling of excitement and a sense of goriness, as if something bad was going to happen, was creeping into my subconscious. There we were, inside of the cafeteria standing in front of each other until the silence was ruined by Violet. Violet. Just Violen-, I mean Violet.  To give her a last name or describe her character would be a disservice to my brain and this story. To keep things short, she’s the “popular b***h” trope who only spews negativity out of her whole. She also happens to be, from your experience in n***********g, I’m going to let you guess. Ding. Ding. Ding.  Lyndon's current play-toy. Like anyone with common sense who had just met their mate, my first assumption was that Lyndon would tell her to f**k off and carry me into the sunset.   Unfortunately, like most men, Lyndon lacked common sense.
