The Light vs The Dark (book 1 of 3)

Friend or Foe?

My father and this girl who has a soft voice was talking when Sam opened the door. They stopped and turned to see who has interrupted.

“oh, I’m sorry father I can come by another time.” I started to walk away

My father spoke, “no, please Zahra come in I want you to meet someone.”

I walked in the office and sat next to the girl. She had fare skin with a punk undercut style hair. On the right side it was in between her shoulder and elbow, and I was the color of a midnight sky with no starts and a new moon. On the left side however was shaved it was a vibrant purple with a semi shing silver mixed. She had light purple eyes but if you looked closely enough, they had dark purple streaks touching her pupil and a dark purple rim around the edge of her hue. Her lips are a natural pink color, but she has two piercings on each side of her bottom lip.

“Zahra meet Nykkol or Nyk for short. She is the sister of an alpha I have a peace agreement with.”

I smiled to her,  “its nice to meet you Nyk, if that’s okay, I call you that.”

 “oh, course it is and it’s a pleasure of meeting you Zahra.”

 My dad then speaks, “Zahra Nykkol is going to start school with you tomorrow I was hoping you can show her around the school and be her friend.”

 Lovely another girl my dad is forcing me to hang out with, this is just great.

I forced a smile and said, “oh, course father I will….” I turned to Nyk, “I’m sure you will like it.”

My father smiling with excitement, “Thank you, Zahra... Why don’t you girls get to know each other and have a look around the territory Zahra you know who will accompany you I expect you to agree with it.”

“yes father”

 my dad was in shock, “wow no protesting you have started to mature into a great leader my dear.”

 I smiled oh I wanted to protest but I wanted to get out of the office faster. Everyone left my father in his office so he could concentrate on work.

I turned to Nyk and apologized, “I’m sorry my dad is making you hang out with me.”

 “Na I’m sure we will get along, and I must say your eyes are so dope girl.”

I stopped walking and asked her in a shocked tone, “Wait is that how you normally speak?”

 “yep all professional in front of the alphas and betas and then all chill and I go with the flow.”

 “you’re like me…well the new me anyway. I also thing your eyes are sick as hell, but in a good way.”

 “thanks!”

 I looed at the ground we were walking along the backyard and I can tell she was looking at my scars, so I covered them a little.

                   Nykkol prov.

          She’s holding back and distant with me. I can tell she is testing to see if I’m a friend or foe I do the same but there’s something about her that feels more like a sister.

          ‘what is she like sis.’ Ryders annoying voice goes through mind link.

          ‘you know Ryder you are popping in and out of my head like this is annoying and she seems nice but different. I’m not sure yet I have to let her trust me before I will know what she is like.’

          ‘huh, fine when you find out yourself let me know.’

          I cut the connection with my brother through the link. I can see the scars on her neck and arm as I stare at them, I was caught, and she pulled on her clothes to cover them up.

          “I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable I didn’t mean to stare. When you’re ready though I want to know what happened.”

She looks at me with questioning eyes, man she’s going to be a pain in the ass to get to know.

          “look Zahra hear me out. I’m not going to hurt you to tell you the truth my brother wants me to make at least one friend in my life. I don’t really have friends because I’m ‘not pretty enough’ or ‘I’m not popular.”

She stops and looks at me,

 “I was attacked by rouges they almost killed me and my wolf and when I woke up from the darkness of my consciousness, I decided that I was going to be more mature then what I was before. My stupidity and my anger almost got me killed.”

I looked at her in amazement she survived that attack. Normally no one would because of the diseases that the rouges carry.

I then asked, “do you know why they are attacking you?”

          “no, my mom and dad have been very protective of me, but they will not tell me what they are really hiding.”

          We started to walk around the backyard again and came across a bench that was a dark oak wood. It has purple and blue small flowers on each side of the bench. We sat there and looked at the garden that was between the pack house and the bench. In front of us I could see bushes neatly trimmed into a pack of wolves with red and white, including black roses on either said. To the right of that was cow-a-lilies all different colors. To the left of the bushes the represented a pack of wolves was some more flowers but a verity of them. Its like it made a rainbow sea of flowers.

The two bodyguards that were following further behind so we could chat privately where watching the woods behind us. I could have easily protected Zahra myself with no help, but I didn’t feel like going against her dad’s orders.

 “Its beautiful out here Nyk its not to hot not too cold the flowers are fully bloomed nicely.”

 ‘How’s it going sis?’ Great my brother AGAIN

‘Butt out Ryder I told you I will contact your ass with any information’

 ‘Okay okay geez who got up in your ass?’

 ‘You DID!’ I blocked him off from the connection

Then I heard Zahra’s voice, “Hey you okay?”

 I turned to her she looked really concerned I guess I had a pissed off look on my face.

 “Oh, yea my brother is just bugging me.”

 “Oh, I’m sorry, would you like to see my room?”

 “Yea if your up for that”

“We can play Xbox or watch tv?”

 “Wait hold the phone, you play video games?” I was in shock when she said Xbox.

“Hell, ya I’m still a gamer at heart!”

 We left the bench that was no cold from lack of company. We headed up to her room which was the last door on the right side.

 The two bodyguards stand in the doorway as we closed the door it smelled like sweet spearmints with a hint of lavender.

 “Wow your room is amazing, and might I say that’s dope.” I pointed to the piano in the far-right hand side of her room with my thumb.

 She looks at it and then to me, “Do you play?”

 “No but if you do I would be happy if you taught me.”

“I would love to teach you and then maybe one day we can have a party and we can play the piano for all to hear.”

 “woah woah woah don’t get too far out there. I may not look like it, but I have stage fright.”

 We sat and played games like GTA77, Ghost Recon, Division78, COD. Then we watched scary movies, but instead of being scared we laughed at them she would say,

“you better run girl you better- oh I told you to run now look at you your dead.”

I turned to her, “Girl your crazy.”

We laughed some more. I thought to myself Now she’s less tense this may not be so hard after all.

                   Ryders prov.

          Man, how long does she need with this mystery girl before I get any information. I was getting frustrated with my sister she wouldn’t tell me anything and blocked the link connection so I can’t contact her. I just wanted to know about this mystery woman.

          For all you know she could be your mate he he

shut the hell up Fenrir you’re not helping.

          I know I am causing you to go mentally insane.

 I growled at him and cut the connection off

Nyk mind links me, ‘Hey, Ryder, I have information.’

‘it’s about f*****g time what do you have for me.’

          ‘Oh, now you got up your butt?’

 ‘INFORMATION’ I growled I was becoming impatient.

‘Okay so the dads story checks out she was attacked by rouges, but she feels like her father and mother is hiding something for her. She’s also the only child so you know what that means.’

          ‘Yes, she will be alpha and Luna of the pack until she finds her mate. Anything else?’

          ‘She’s so awesome dude you should totally meet her she has the vibe of a sister.’

          ‘What does she look like?’

          ‘No way you see for yourself.’

          ‘Damn it Nyk it’s like your teasing me with my favorite gaming system’

          ‘ha-ha I hope you enjoy the information bye.’ She cut off the link before I could say anything and left me to wonder what her parents were hiding.

          ‘Eric come see me in my office at once’

Eric response immediately,  ‘yes sir’ Eric is my beta he’s also my sister mate, he is the only one I trust to be the next alpha until I either have a kid or if I die.

He shows up in my office, “yes, sir what would you have me do?”

 “I need you to go see a witch named Corvus he knows about the Blood moon packs history I want to know what they are hiding.”

          “yes, sir when shall I leave.”

“tomorrow at days break”

“yes sir” he bowed and then left.

          I was angry but then I understood why they were keeping her a secret from me I would if I had only one child and they were attacked I would keep it a secret from my allies as well.

                   Eric prov.

I know Nyk is under a secret mission and she can’t be distracted but I miss her beside me night and day. How I wish for the longing of her touch once again. I thought of her smile and laugh as I drifted off to sleep so I could get up in the morning to search for this witch. Hopefully with the information I gather from him I’ll be able to hold my love in my arms.

 Mate needs to be here Red said to me with his soft golden eyes and his strawberry red fur.

 I know lad I know

 he left my mind to sleep and so I drifted off into a deep sleep. I woke up around 4:00am took a shower and linked Ryder that I was leaving. I have heard many stories about the witches interesting creatures they are, but not as interesting as the fairies they are very interesting. The fairies are very curious but the old say never said curiosity killed the fairies. I guess it’s a good thing they are not called cats. The witches live in a town called Salem. From what my intel says Salem is four-day drive and then I must track him down.

                   Zahra prov.

          Nykkol woke up around the same time I did to eat breakfast. since we have guests all cooking is done in the kitchen and then everyone eats either in the living room or around the dinning table in the kitchen some even ate outside because it is peaceful this morning. My mother helped the cooks she will only allow the cooks in her kitchen when there is a big event or there is another pack here. The cooks are also our maids and our garden helpers, so they will not be out of the job if they don’t cook. I quickly ate breakfast so Nykkol and I could go for a run before we head to school.

Nyk was stretching then asked, “ready Zahra for our run Calypso really wants to see your wolf Kotori.”

“yep let’s go.”

Then Kotori spoke to me in my head, so excited, Zahra, I’ve been talking to Calypso she’s amazing and funny. I really can’t wait.

 okay Kotori now remember be alert and careful ill let you have full control.

 yes, I don’t think we can handle a second attack.

agreed.

 As usually the blockheads came with us but they gave us our space, so it was okay. When kotori came out of the woods she let me have control and walk up to Nykkol. I was to her shoulders in height when I walk on all fours.

Nyk’s jaw dropped while she felt Kotori’s fur, “yo I never seen a wolf this big your bigger than an alpha.”

 ‘yea I know oh Kotori is talking over when we run that way, we can stay alert ever sense our attack she hasn’t been herself yet.’

When I said that to Nykkol, Kotori whined a little and I comforted her.

Nykkol nods her head, “okay Calypso understands how Kotori feels they have been catching up and what she told me about how huge Kotori was, I thought she was joking.”

 Nykkol soon came out of the woods her head was at Kotoris shoulders.

Before Nyk let she said, ‘Calypso says she wants to help Kotori by being in full control and staying alert with her.’

 ‘okay that sounds great.’ I replied

 Nykkol let Calypso take over and she could see Kotoris tail wag excitingly.

 Calypso was pretty she had white fur and black strips like a white tiger. Her eyes were the most interesting part. Her eyes where what I called a mystery color one minute, they are baby blue the next they are a lime green color.

So, I had to ask Nykkol about them. ‘hey, Nyk what is your wolf eyes color they keep changing?’

 ‘no one really knows when I had my first change on a full moon a witch said that they are called mystery eyes and it was very rare to see them in a life time. They change into all colors except for white and black.’

 ‘that’s so awesome.’

Nyk asked, ‘what about Kotori why is one eye an Obsidian color and the other white smoky color?’

‘so, one knows not even the doctor or any witches or fairies, also the warlocks don’t know. What I do know is that kotori can see clear as day at night and day whether its foggy or raining. I am learning to become a tracker because of her eyes.’

 ‘well I think that would be the best job for you to help your pack.’ Nykkol agreed

‘okay we better get going Ace and Zane are here.’

 ‘oh, who is who?’ Then Nyk asked.

 ‘Ace is Sam’s wolf the one with brown fur and green eyes. The Black fur with lightening blue eyes is Zane or as we call Jay.’

 ‘oh, okay will they be joining us at school too.’

 ‘yep but don’t worry they don’t go into the girl’s restrooms so that’s always a plus.’

Zane growled playfully while Ace shook his head. We laughed and started to run around the pack territory, which was about 10 miles by 50 miles long, so if we ran all the way around, which we did, we ran a total of 120 miles.

After our run it was time for us to head to school. Jay normally sat in the passenger seat, but he decided that it was best if Nykkol sat there. We arrived at school early so Nykkol can pick up her class schedule and then find her locker and all classes.

 “so, what you get for your classes?” I asked

 “well let’s see first is math, science, art and then lunch. Then there’s gym English music finally history.”

“oh, okay so we will have math together then our next class is science. Then I will not see you until lunch. After that we have gym class together then music and that’s it.”

 “I say that’s over half our schedule. What locker are you.” I asked.

“6396A what about you?”

 “6397A where’s that at.”

“no way let me see that.”

 She handed me her paper which said locker # 6397A. “that’s the top locker next to mine.”

She smiled, “sweet at least I know where to go to get to my locker and half of my classes. I just can’t believe you go to school with all of these whores and jackasses Zahra.”

 We laughed and the bell rang we headed to our lockers so I could grab my books and show her assigned locker to her. We then headed to our first class. No one in that classroom likes the back desks so we were about to find seats next to each other, and then class began after the bell rang.

                   Nykkol’s prov.

          Thank god my brother set up my schedule like this and gave it to the principle. Math class was just a normal math class to me. Instead of personal desks there was six long desks two columns and three rows. With office chairs that had a cushion for your ass and a cushion for your back. The board was a white board in front of the room and the teacher’s desk was angles to where the teacher could see the door and the class if they where to look up from their paperwork. The teacher was okay he was tall and skinny with dirty blonde hair blue eyes and glasses.  Normally teachers would embarrass the new students but he never embarrassed me so that was a plus in my book. All the windows where on the left side of the room we sat on the right side to avoid any rouges seeing us. We didn’t want to endanger the whole school. The teacher had a poster called my pet pevs. and another one called the three bees. He also decorated his desk with a golden apple a name plate and a family photo of him, his wife, and three adorable looking children. We sat there and listened to him speak. He then passed some paper homework to us but gave Zahra extra. Just before we are about to leave, I hear a knock on the door, and I could smell someone who should have never shown up in the first place. The door opened after the teacher said come in.
