Nobody wants you.
You’re doomed just like me.
Who said those horrible things to me?
How did I end up here?
Who was…I?
Everything around me was so unfamiliar. Unfamiliar faces. Unfamiliar place. Yet, they were so kind and didn’t push me too much. Telling me I was in a horrible accident and I had a nasty blow in my head and someone brutally almost killed me. Trying to. But I wonder…
How come I couldn’t remember any of this?
Was the head injury the cause?
The door was opened and the kind doctor walked in. Doctor Turner was his name. “Hi. You look relaxed now,” he said as I stared at the young doctor.
“I’m so sorry for my sudden act,” I apologized. Remembering I went through a panic mode in front of him and the nurses.
“No worries. It was a normal reaction from a patient like you.” Like me. He meant a patient who didn’t remember anything before the incident happened. “We’ve called the man who saved your life. He’s on his way here.” A man?
“Someone saved me?” I asked.
“Yes. He was the one who found you and brought you here. He kindly stayed to wait for your update before he had to go home after we moved you to your room. His name is Levi.”
“Levi…” What a beautiful name. It sounded exquisite rolling out of my tongue. Levi… My savior.
“Other than your memory, you’re in great shape. We’ve changed the bandage on your head and abdomen. I was quite surprised that you healed pretty quickly,” he added.
Did that mean… “Do I have to leave right after?” I asked and Doctor Turner was looking at me like he was wondering if I just asked him that – such a stupid question.
“Well, usually, a patient who is healthy enough to recover by herself without the doctor’s supervision every day could go home. But of course, we have to monitor you for a couple of days before we send you home.”
“Where should I go when I got out of here?” I asked in a whisper, but loud enough for him to hear. He didn’t say anything.
I didn’t know my home. I barely knew myself. Where should I go?
Alone.
Unwanted.
And this weird feeling panged in my heart and it was goddamn hurt.
Clenching my eyes, I shut my eyes. “Are you all right?” Doctor Turner asked in a panic.
I could hear them saying, we don’t want you here. You’re an embarrassment.
“Stop…” I muttered, feeling the water in my closed lids. What was that?
“What happened?” the new, male, and masculine voice asked. I immediately opened my eyes. That heavy, deep, and soothing voice.
“Mr. Donovan,” the doctor addressed him as I slowly turned my head to where the man was standing now. A man, a very handsome one with dark brown hair with a pair of beautiful hazel eyes with green swirls on them. He was wearing a dark brown leather jacket with a black t-shirt underneath.
He closed the door before he made his way to us – to me. My eyes followed until he stopped beside me. Smelling his cologne. Manly with a hint of smoke. Did he smoke? Our eyes remain locked. Unbothered there was a doctor here, watching us. I was too hypnotized by his eyes I couldn’t look away. Those stunning orbs. His Godly face with some brown stubbles. And I just realized he was wearing a necklace around his neck and let it loose down. A crucifix?
“Miss? This is Levi Donovan; he’s the man who saved you,” Doctor Turner explained.
“I didn’t,” this Levi Donovan countered.
I wrinkled my eyebrows, “You didn’t?”
“I didn’t. I just found you in the water, unconscious and not breathing. When I did the CPR on you, I pulled you from death and you flew away again. I had no choice but to bring you here so they could find out what’s going on with you. And not like I could leave you alone with that horrible cut on your stomach and I just learned you hit your head too. So, no, I didn’t save you. I only did what was the right thing to do.” Why I could tell this man just didn’t want to give himself credit that he indeed saved me? Not everybody would do the same as him.
Doctor Turner coughed. “Thank you for coming on short notice, Mr. Donovan,” he thanked him as he began to explain everything about my condition to this Levi man. Seriously, this man was like a model. Hey, I might be lost my memory but I still had some basic knowledge about the world. I knew how to talk, I knew how to adore elegant things – beings, like him. His side-view was absolutely perfect. How come there was a gorgeous being like him? And those eyes, they were just the prettiest things. I wanted to say what I had ever seen in my life but I didn’t know or didn’t remember if I had seen someone as charming or prettier than him.
Levi turned to me. I maintained my eyes on him. What was this? Why he was looking at me like that? “Could I have a moment with her, Doc?” he asked while having his orbs on me.
“Yes, of course. Oh, she hasn’t eaten so whenever she’s ready, you can ask the nurse to send the dinner here.”
“I will.” Turner left.
It was just the two of us now.
The air was kind of heavy now. What should I talk about with him? What did he want?
Levi turned and grabbed a chair. My eyes went straight to his round and tight ass. Oh, that gorgeous ass. But seriously, why I was looking at it? When he turned with his brows joined, he asked, “Are you looking at my ass?” Oh. My. God. Feeling my eyes widen, I couldn’t say anything as he smirked. “No worries, cariño. Women like my ass.” He returned with the chair and positioned it near my bed. Sitting that exquisite gorgeous ass of his there, he rested his back. His eyes never left me.
“What?”
“Said you don’t remember anything about yourself,” he said. I shook my head as a confirmation. “Turner said maybe the cause of you hit your head too hard so everything before the accident happened, got blown away,” he added. “Nothing you can remember of?” I shook my head again. “Even your name?” I repeated the action.
And all I could do was, “I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing?”
“I don’t know. I’ve taken much of your time.”
“Oh, right. Yes, you did. I have to agree with you.” Well, ouch. “But it was my decision to be here. I was the one who found you. And I hold a code to not abandon a woman in need. You can blame my mother for telling me to do this. To always respect a lady.”
“What a great mother,” I said and he smiled.
“She is.” That was the first time I saw him smiling genuinely. On how I could tell he loved his mother straight from the heart. Did I have one? Was she looking for me now?
“Turner also told me nobody is looking for you until tonight,” he stated.
“Probably I don’t have anyone or they thought I’m dead.”
“Well, I don’t want to say that but with those wounds, maybe someone did want you dead. Usually, they would look for you to see if they’ve finished the job. But I heard nothing about this. So, you practically have nobody you could rely on,” he concluded. I agreed with him.
We fell silent.
What would happen to me? I had to leave after Doctor Turner found me strong enough to handle myself. I didn’t feel any pain except I had to accept the fact that I lost my memories and I didn’t know whether I wanted to get them back or not. He said I could do some therapy or something. But what about the payment? Turner said I didn’t have my wallet or any identity with me. How useless.
You’re useless.
My breath stuck and I closed my eyes. “What’s wrong?” Levi asked.
“It’s…nothing.”
“There’s something if you look like you’re in pain. Hey,” I felt his hand on my shoulder. Slowly looking at his big hand, the hand looked like he could protect me from anything. Even from those horrible voices. And his hand was so warm, calming. Finding his eyes again, feeling I was being sucked there and I wanted to stay. I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to be here with him. As long I could be with him, I’ll do anything. “I can’t help you if you don’t talk,” he added, sensing my anxiety.
“I… I only heard those voices,” I started.
“What voices?”
“They’re saying nothing but horrible things but I don’t recognize any of them.”
“What did they say to you?”
“Like… I’m useless, I’m unwanted.” The soon I said that, I saw a fit of anger in his eyes. Such a beautiful being looked amazingly stunning when he was angry. Almost like it just increased his beauty to a whole new level. And I whispered, “I don’t want to be with them.”
“Who?”
“I don’t know but I don’t want to be with them anymore. If I’m going to be hurt again, I choose to be here.”
“No one is going to send you back to where you got hurt, cariño.” What was cariño? And why he kept calling me that? Before I could ask, he held my hand, squeezing it hard. Almost like he was trying to protect me. “You are okay. You are not hurt…well, except physically. And you are safe with me.” Oh, his words were like sweet warm honey, warming up my heart.
“Please…” I begged again.
“I’m not taking you there.”
“Can I stay with you instead?”
“Are you sure about that? Staying with someone you don’t even know?”
“You look nice.” He smirked, not in a teasing way.
“That’s the first time a woman sincerely said I was nice,” he said. “Well, I am nice to women but I’ve never been told like that. Thanks for that.” Infusing our eyes again, there was something strange whenever I was looking at him. When we were looking at each other like this. I knew how enchanting his orbs were. Could beautiful eyes make someone else being hypnotized and unable to move?
“First thing first, I have to bring someone with an identity,” he said. “I don’t want any stranger inside my house.”
“I don’t even know my name.”
“That’s the problem, you have to be named first.”
“You can name me.”
His brows shoot up, “Are you sure?” There was always something hidden whenever he asked are you sure. I wonder why.
“Positive,” I replied.
“I could’ve called you doll or pet.”
“If that’s what you want.” He blinked his eyes in confusion at my answer but I saw the hint of amusement from them.
“Very well then.” He stood up straight. Jeez, this guy was seriously tall. Folding his arms, he brought his hand on his chin. “What should I name you? I found you at night. Floating in the ocean like a dead fish. Long caramel hair spread in the water. Green eyes,” he muttered and closed his eyes. Wow, even when he was closing them, he looked equally handsome. They said beauty was a gift, I should say his beauty was a sin. How lucky this man was. When he opened his eyes, “I’ve decided.” Pushing his face forward, he stated, “Eden.”
“Eden?” I repeated.
“The sea is my favorite place since I was a boy. It gives me pleasure. And I found you there. Eden, that’s who you are from now on. Well, at least until you’ve gained your memories and then you can tell me your name later.”
“Eden…” I murmured.
“You don’t like it?” I shook my head instantly. Is he kidding me?
“I love it. Well then,” I extended my hand. “I’m Eden.” He softly chuckled.
Accepting my hand, feeling the fire as we held hands. And I could tell…he was feeling it too. “Name’s Levi Donovan. Nice to meet you, Eden.”
Eden, that was who I was now.
Nice to meet you all.
