Ethan Kingsley is the only heir to one of America's largest business empires. Born into unimaginable wealth, he has spent his entire life surrounded by luxury, servants, and people who respect him only because of his family name. To prove that he deserves to inherit Kingsley Global, his father gives him an impossible challenge. For one year, Ethan must abandon his luxurious life and work inside the company as an ordinary intern under a fake identity. No money. No special treatment. No revealing who he truly is. For the first time, Ethan experiences the struggles of ordinary people. Then he meets Scarlett Hayes. Fearless, bold, and completely unimpressed by him, Scarlett treats Ethan like every other employee. She challenges him, argues with him, and slowly becomes the first person to see him as a man rather than a billionaire heir. But Scarlett has her own secrets. She believes the Kingsley family destroyed her father and ruined her family. She hates billionaires. She hates everything Ethan truly is. As love slowly blossoms between them, hidden conspiracies, family betrayals, and dangerous secrets begin to surface. And when Scarlett discovers Ethan's true identity, she may never forgive the man she gave her heart to. Can love survive when it is built on a lie?

CHAPTER 1 - THE SON OF THE EMPIRE
The private jet landed just before sunset. Ethan Kingsley looked through the window as the lights of New York began to glow below him. The city looked small from the sky. Quiet. Harmless. He knew better. The cabin door opened. Two assistants were already waiting outside with tablets in their hands. Behind them stood three bodyguards in dark suits. “Welcome back, Mr. Kingsley,” one of the assistants said. Another stepped forward. “Your car is ready. Your suit for tonight has been delivered to the penthouse. The gala begins at eight.” Ethan nodded and walked down the steps. No one asked if he was tired. No one asked if the meeting in London had gone well. They only moved around him like parts of a machine. At twenty-eight, Ethan had everything people dreamed about. A private jet. A penthouse above Manhattan. Cars that cost more than most houses. A name that opened doors before he reached them. Yet as he entered the waiting limousine, he felt the same thing he always felt after returning home. Nothing. His phone buzzed with messages. Business partners. Women he barely remembered. Friends who only called when they needed invitations, money, or access. He turned the phone facedown. The limousine moved through the city while people waited in traffic outside. Ethan watched them through the tinted window. A man on a bicycle argued with a taxi driver. A mother carried grocery bags while holding her child’s hand. Two teenagers laughed at something on a phone. Their lives looked difficult. They also looked real. His own life felt like a beautiful room with no windows. By seven-thirty, Ethan stood inside his penthouse while a tailor adjusted the sleeves of his black tuxedo. His assistant, Daniel, read through the evening schedule. “You will arrive at eight fifteen. The press line should take ten minutes. You will sit beside Senator Wallace. Your father will give the final speech.” Ethan looked at himself in the mirror. The suit fitted perfectly. Everything always fitted perfectly. “Do I have to smile?” he asked. Daniel paused. “Only for the cameras.” Ethan gave a dry laugh. “Good. I would hate to waste one.” The charity gala was held in one of the largest hotels in Manhattan. Crystal lights hung from the ceiling like frozen rain. Wealthy guests filled the room in expensive clothes, holding glasses of champagne and smiling at people they secretly hated. The moment Ethan entered, heads turned. “Mr. Kingsley.” “Ethan, good to see you.” “You look just like your father.” Hands reached for him from every direction. A businessman praised his latest investment. A woman told him how handsome he looked. A senator laughed too loudly at a joke Ethan had not made. Everyone wanted a piece of him. No one seemed interested in the man underneath. Ethan played his part. He smiled. He shook hands. He said the right things. Later, needing air, he stepped away from the main hall and walked toward a quiet balcony. Before he reached it, he heard voices coming from behind a half-open door. Two men were talking. Ethan recognized one of them as a senior executive at Kingsley Global. “He will take over one day,” the second man said. The executive gave a short laugh. “Take over? Ethan?” “Richard has no other son.” “That does not make him ready.” There was a pause. Then came the words that cut deeper than Ethan expected. “He is only respected because he is Richard Kingsley’s son.” The other man laughed. “Without the name, nobody would even notice him.” Ethan stood still. For one second, the music from the ballroom disappeared. The lights seemed colder. He had heard insults before. He had been called spoiled, careless, arrogant. But this felt different. Because a part of him feared it was true. He walked away before they saw him. For the rest of the evening, he smiled less. When his father stood on the stage and spoke about leadership, sacrifice, and responsibility, Ethan watched him from across the room. Richard Kingsley was sixty-two, tall, controlled, and powerful. He did not need to raise his voice. People listened because the room seemed to bend around him. Ethan had spent his whole life trying to become that man. Sometimes he wondered if Richard had ever noticed. After midnight, Ethan returned to the penthouse. He had barely removed his jacket when Daniel approached him. “Your father wants to see you.” “Tonight?” “He said immediately.” Ethan found Richard in the private study, standing bedside the window with the city behind him. “You sent for me,” Ethan said. Richard turned slowly. “I heard about London.” “The deal went through.” “Because I called the chairman.” Ethan’s jaw tightened. “I could have handled it.” “That is exactly what worries me.” Richard walked toward the desk. “You understand numbers. You understand power. But you do not understand people.” Ethan stared at him. “What is that supposed to mean?” “It means you are not ready to inherit my company.” The words hit him like a slap. Ethan gave a bitter laugh. “Then who is? One of the men smiling at you downstairs?” Richard did not react. “You have lived behind gates your whole life. You have never worried about rent. You have never worked under a cruel manager. You have never been ignored.” “So this is punishment?” “No. It is a test.” Richard opened a drawer. “For one year, you will work inside Kingsley Global as an ordinary employee.” Ethan frowned. “No executive office. No assistant. No driver. No special treatment. No one can know who you are.” “You cannot be serious.” “If you reveal your identity, use the family name, or fail to complete the year, you lose your place as successor.” Anger burned through Ethan’s chest. “You think I cannot survive without your money?” “I think you do not know who you are without it.” The room went silent. Ethan remembered the men at the gala. Without the name, nobody would even notice him. He stepped closer to the desk. “Fine,” he said. “I accept.” Richard studied him for a moment, then placed a small card in front of him. Ethan picked it up. It was an employee ID. The photograph was his. But the name was not. ETHAN COLE
