“The Rising Argument in the Prosecutor’s Office”
Eva walked in with heavy steps, knocking on the door before entering Kemal’s office. Kemal was buried in files at his desk, but as soon as she stepped in, he looked up at her intently. He tried to maintain his composure, making an effort to stay patient.
“So, you’re here. I assume you brought the file,” he said in a calm voice.
Eva placed the file on the desk and replied,
“Yes. We need to discuss this today.”
Kemal nodded slightly, taking a deep breath.
“I know, it’s important work. Something that should stay between us.”
Eva frowned.
“Between us? As if there’s anything left between us.”
Kemal kept his tone polite.
“I know things have been rough lately. But we have to remain professional.”
Eva’s voice sharpened:
“Professional? You mean living in lies every single day?”
Kemal answered without breaking eye contact,
“Not lies, Eva—truth. But you see everything in black and white.”
Eva stepped forward, her tone rising:
“Truth? You cheated on me, Kemal! A different woman every week!”
Kemal slammed his hand on the desk, voice hardening:
“That’s your assumption. Where’s your proof?”
Eva trembled with anger.
“Proof? Maybe not in my hand, but I’ve heard enough from others!”
Kemal’s voice rose:
“Learn to stay quiet before you judge me!”
Eva shouted back:
“Stay quiet? Every time I stayed quiet, you won, Kemal!”
Kemal stood up abruptly, tension flooding the room.
“As long as we live under the same roof, we have to listen to each other!”
Eva yelled,
“We’re not living together anymore! Not even under the same roof!”
Outside the door, a few colleagues could hear the argument escalating. They tried to figure out who was yelling at whom.
Kemal almost screamed,
“Some respect, Eva!”
Eva snapped back,
“Respect? You lost the meaning of that word long ago!”
The argument spilled out beyond the room, as the door creaked open and shut.
