Explosion in the Courtroom

351 Words
“Explosion in the Courtroom” The courtroom was cold and filled with seriousness. Judge Murat Tezcan sat with a stern expression, focused on the file before him. Across from him were Prosecutor Kemal Karan and Lawyer Eva Tezcan Karan. The family ties only made this formal setting in the courthouse even more complicated. Eva felt the weight of standing before her father and struggled to keep herself composed. She took a deep breath, carefully choosing her words. But Kemal, on the other hand, seemed to deliberately and stubbornly provoke her. Kemal didn’t take his eyes off Eva as he gave his statement. There was a subtle mix of mockery and challenge in his tone. Eva tried to stay calm: “Your Honor, I am here to defend my client’s rights.” Kemal responded with a slight smile: “Counselor, you cannot avoid seeing the truth.” Her father, Murat Tezcan, furrowed his brows slightly. “Parties, please remain calm. Court decorum must be maintained.” Kemal continued in a harsher tone: “I am only here to ensure justice is served. Not to please others.” Eva’s patience was wearing thin. Her heart raced and her voice hardened: “Perhaps justice only means what you want it to mean. But we stand for the truth.” Kemal immediately fired back: “The truth can be bitter, Eva. You choose to ignore it.” Eva stood up, on the verge of losing control: “You are the one ignoring it! What you call truth is just a curtain for your lies!” Everyone in the courtroom froze. Judge Murat Tezcan noticed his daughter’s anger but waited before intervening. Kemal narrowed his eyes and shouted: “Enough! We cannot continue like this!” Eva responded with her own fury: “Maybe it’s over now, Kemal! We can’t keep playing this game!” Judge Murat Tezcan spoke firmly to calm the room: “Parties, please sit down! Such arguments do not suit this court.” The two sat back down, exchanging hateful glances. Yet the tension remained — a bond stronger than silence.
