CHAPTER ONE:THE WEDDING THAT BROKE ME
Amara Williams stood before the enormous mirror in the bridal suite, staring at the woman looking back at her.
The white wedding gown fitted her perfectly, its delicate lace shining beneath the golden lights. Her hair was styled beautifully, and a diamond necklace rested against her neck.
She looked like a princess.
But inside, she felt like a prisoner.
In less than an hour, she would become the wife of Adrian Blackwood, one of the richest and most powerful men in the country.
For months, Amara had dreamed of this day. She had fallen in love with Adrian's quiet smile, his deep voice, and the rare moments when he treated her as though she mattered more than his money.
But his family had never accepted her.
"Look at yourself carefully, Amara," a cold voice said behind her.
Amara turned and found Victoria Blackwood, Adrian's mother, standing in the doorway.
"Today, you will become a Blackwood, but don't mistake that marriage certificate for acceptance. You will never be one of us."
Amara swallowed the tears burning in her eyes.
"I love your son, Mrs. Blackwood."
Victoria laughed bitterly.
"Love? Do you think love will protect you in this family? My son deserves a woman from his own world, not a poor girl who suddenly thinks she belongs among billionaires."
Before Amara could respond, the door opened again.
Adrian stood there in his black wedding suit, looking as handsome as ever.
"Mother, leave us."
Victoria walked past him, giving Amara one final look of disgust.
For a moment, Amara hoped Adrian would comfort her. Instead, he adjusted his cufflinks and glanced at his watch.
"We need to go downstairs," he said coldly.
"Adrian, your mother—"
"Please, Amara. Not today."
His words silenced her.
Downstairs, hundreds of guests waited beneath crystal chandeliers. Cameras flashed as Adrian offered Amara his arm.
She smiled for the photographs, hiding the pain in her heart.
When the ceremony began, Adrian slipped a ring onto her finger. His expression remained unreadable.
Then the officiant asked him the question Amara had been waiting to hear.
"Do you take Amara Williams to be your lawful wife?"
Adrian paused.
For one terrifying second, the entire room seemed to stop breathing.
Then he answered, "I do."
Amara's heart filled with relief.
But just as they turned to face their guests, a woman rose from the front row.
She wore a stunning red dress and held a small child in her arms.
"Adrian," she called, her voice trembling. "Are you really going to pretend you don't know us?"
The guests turned.
Adrian went completely pale.
Amara stared at the woman, then at her new husband.
"Adrian," she whispered. "Who is she?"
He didn't answer.
The woman walked toward them, tears streaming down her face.
"My name is Sophia Laurent," she announced. "And before you celebrate this marriage, Amara deserves to know the truth."
She lifted the child slightly.
"Your new husband promised to marry me first. And this little boy is his son."
Amara felt the world collapse beneath her feet.
She looked at Adrian, desperately waiting for him to deny it.
Instead, he closed his eyes.
And in that moment, Amara understood that the wedding she had dreamed of was only the beginning of her nightmare.
