Episode 1-New girl
The rain tapped softly against the car window as Emily Carter stared at the huge building in front of her.
Westbridge High School.
Her new school.
Students walked across the front lawn in groups, laughing loudly while others rushed inside before the late bell rang. Everything looked normal.
Too normal.
“You’ll be fine,” her mom said gently from the driver’s seat.
Emily gave a small nod even though she didn’t believe it.
New schools never ended well for her.
She grabbed her bag, stepped out of the car, and pulled her hoodie tighter around herself as cold wind brushed past.
The moment she entered the hallway, noise surrounded her.
Lockers slammed. People laughed. Shoes squeaked against the polished floor.
Emily lowered her eyes and followed the map the office had given her.
Room 214.
Homeroom.
As she reached the classroom door, her chest tightened nervously.
She hated introductions.
Unfortunately for her, the teacher noticed immediately.
“You must be the new student,” the woman said with a smile. “Come in.”
Every head in the classroom turned toward her.
Great.
Emily slowly stepped inside while whispers spread around the room.
“She’s pretty.” “Is she from New York?” “She looks mean.”
The teacher clapped her hands once.
“Alright everyone, settle down. Class, this is Emily Carter. She transferred here last week.”
Emily gave a tiny wave.
“Why don’t you tell us something about yourself?”
Her stomach twisted.
“I… like drawing,” she said quietly.
Awkward silence.
Then someone from the back said, “That’s it?”
The class laughed.
Emily wished the floor would open up and swallow her whole.
The teacher sighed. “Okay, moving on. Emily, you can sit beside Mason.”
Emily looked toward the far corner near the windows.
A boy sat there with headphones hanging around his neck, spinning a pen lazily between his fingers.
Messy dark hair. Black hoodie. Completely uninterested expression.
He barely looked up.
Emily walked over and sat beside him quietly.
For almost ten minutes, neither of them spoke.
Then suddenly—
“You’re not very talkative, huh?”
Emily turned slightly.
Mason was staring at her with amused eyes.
“Neither are you,” she replied before thinking.
He smirked.
“Fair point.”
Emily quickly looked away, embarrassed she had answered him at all.
Outside the window, rain clouds slowly drifted across the sky.
“You transferred here because of family stuff?” Mason asked casually.
Emily froze for half a second.
“…Something like that.”
He studied her carefully but didn’t push further.
Instead, he leaned back in his chair.
“This school’s annoying sometimes,” he said. “People talk too much.”
Emily glanced at him.
“Then why are you talking to me?”
That made him laugh quietly.
And somehow, hearing that laugh made her nervous in a way she didn’t understand.
Before she could say anything else, the bell rang.
Students immediately stood up, filling the classroom with noise again.
Mason grabbed his backpack and started walking toward the door before stopping beside her desk.
“Oh, and Emily?”
She looked up.
“Try not to trust everyone here.”
Then he walked away into the crowded hallway, leaving Emily completely confused.
She didn’t know it yet…
But meeting Mason Hayes was about to change her entire life.
