KAEL’S POV The trap worked faster than I expected. By dawn, we spread information around the palace within a tight circle of people closest to me. Amara was dying, and if she did, her body would be incinerated so her magic could not be transferred. Two days passed, and everything seemed quiet. No one acted. Still, I kept watch. By nightfall, I stood at the tower of my castle, trying to clear my head, when I noticed movement near the entrance of the servant quarters.
