CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVEDate I’m excited. It’s Friday night, the day before Halloween, and I have something special planned. I spoke to Mark, and he approved an excursion for me to take Celeste outside of town. The attention at school has died down once the story stopped being played on the national news junkets. But that doesn’t mean the pressure is off Celeste. The police presence is really wearing on her. Whenever she comes over to my house or goes to the store, an officer is never far behind. When we carpool to and from school, there’s either a patrol car or an unmarked sedan following us. She knows why they’re there, but the feeling of never being alone is taking its toll.
