I felt the heat boiling inside of me as my magic tried to save me. I felt the burn of the wound in my chest and the warm pool of blood that was spreading under my body. I could feel all of my power focusing on mending the gash that was killing me, but it would not heal.

I looked around me at the battle that raged on despite my life slipping away.

I saw friends fall at the hands of our enemies, I watched helpessly as their lifeless bodies piled on the ground. Rage and despair burned hotter than fiery flame.

How could I die and leave my people to suffer at the hands of such montsers? How could I possibly protect them as I was meant to? I had to stop this onslaught, or die trying.

A new heat filled my veins and I rose to my feet, prepared to meet my fate.

Prologue
There was a time when the world of magic was hidden safely away from the prying eyes of mortals. When the idea of witches, werewolves and vampires were nothing but monsters of your bad dreams and fairies only existed in the imaginations of children.     Mythical creatures were nothing more than legend. But all legends are planted in truth and in time they grow on their own. At least that's what my mother always taught me.     It's been almost 80 years since the first epic war between the human race and the creatures that use to only exist in bed time stories. Humans had dragged these peaceful and private beings into the spotlight and had forced them to acclimate to our society. The government would like you to believe that we succeeded because these being were evil but weak. My family always taught me other wise.     These being did not like violence, they had existed far longer than humans and had long been past fighting each other. They simply wanted peace, so they surrendered.     They now live among us. Living in ghastly conditions and enduring monstrous treatment. Human beings had turned these creatures into servant. Trophies and status symbols. Their nature for peace being their ultimate weakness, of which was taken extreme advantage of.     I had prayed for their sake that this oppression would not last forever. That a great intervention would disrupt this cruel injustice and allow them to once again live in peace.     Little did I know that the time would soon be upon us, and that it would change everything.
