Jamie’s POV
Aiden admitting that he left the room made me feel respected. I would have been upset if the first time he saw me naked was when I was unconscious. I wasn’t really looking forward to call Jillian back after her reaction before where she stormed out.
Even after the recent… events with Aiden, my head was still swirling with questions, but at least I had some clarity. I knew I wanted to pursue Aiden, but the specifics were still unclear. I guess for now, we’d take it one day at a time. I was excited to quit my job, especially after Devin had been such a jerk lately.
The idea of having a house with Jillian sounded great. Bella would be able to have a backyard and the convenience of the parks would definitely help. My main concern, though, was would Jillian actually accept this change? She tended to be resistant if it wasn’t part of her plan and d moving in with a pack of werewolves was definitely not part of her plan.
I’d deal with that later. First, I needed food. I hadn’t eaten since our date last night and it was after noon now. I slipped my underwear back on and pulled my black jeans on. I stole a glance in the mirror, and while I looked alright, I had s*x hair. Oh no. I recalled his hands trailing through my hair, a slight blush appearing on my face. I smoothed out my hair as best I could. I checked my phone and the battery was dead. Great.
I stepped outside of the bedroom to a patiently waiting Aiden.
“Do you have a phone charger?” I said, raising my phone slightly.
“Oh, yeah that can be arranged. Let’s get you some food,” he responded. As we were walking, I glanced up at him, his grey eyes swirling silver.
“What’s with your eye color changing like that? Is it a wolf thing?” I asked, unable to hold in the question.
“You could say that. It’s called mind linking. When you’re in a pack, you can think about the person you’re trying to communicate with, and you can speak in their head. When someone is mind linking, their eyes turn silver.” That makes sense and was consistent with what I noticed.
“How about when your eyes turn black?” I asked, recalling the bedroom situation.
“That, uhh, can be two things. Typically, it’s when my wolf is close to the surface. That can be if you’re in danger and he is feeling protective or if I’m angry.”
“And the other thing?” I asked, pressing him further.
“Uhh, when I smell you aroused and I want you. Hunter and I both want to be close to you, so when I got worked up like that, the primal instinct kicked in.” He blushed as he was explaining, his discomfort evident on his face.
We walked in silence for a few minutes as he led us down to the first floor and to a large kitchen. Industrial grade appliances were placed throughout the kitchen area including multiple refrigerators and stoves. Countertops were placed between the stoves creating ample workspace and storage. A door was open to the back revealing a large walk in pantry. This place was amazing! By the entrance, there was a peninsula with a large overhang with tall stools. Aiden pulled a stool out for me and sat on the stool next to me. A middle aged woman came up to us, placing a charger on the counter. She had short hair covering her head with soft curls and round glasses.
“The charger you requested, Alpha.”
“Miss Sidney, thank you!” he replied with a smile. I noticed his interactions with this woman seemed more genuine than with his own parents. That said a lot about his upbringing. This woman must have been more of a mother figure to him than dress up barbie upstairs.
“What can I get you two to eat?” Miss Sidney asked with a smile.
“Whatever you have available, my Luna is famished,” he said, cheesing a smile. He was enjoying this.
Miss Sidney’s eyes opened wide, a huge smile across her face. “Alpha Aiden, are you saying that you found your mate?!” Her excited tone showed her genuine happiness for Aiden, which made me happy.
“Yes Ma’am, and I couldn’t be happier with the Moon Goddess’s selection,” he said, wrapping his arm around my waist. I couldn’t help but smile at the simple gesture.
I plugged my phone into the charger as Miss Sidney started working around the kitchen preparing us some lunch. When my phone turned on, I saw that it was just after 2 pm now, which meant that my shift at the Kingston Diner was starting in just under two hours. I dialed the number and asked for Devin.
“Hello?” he said, his stern voice sending shivers down my spine. I couldn’t wait for what was coming next.
“Hey Devin, it’s Jamie,” I replied back sweetly.
“Yeah? You calling to verify your shift? You work the same hours every week!” he said, making me roll my eyes.
“You remember your advice for increasing my income?” I asked.
“Uh huh,” he grumbled in reply.
“I decided to take your advice. I won't be buttoning any of the buttons, though.”
Devin was silent for once as he processed what I said. I decided to cut to the chase.
“Yeah, I’m not coming back in. I quit, Devin, effective immediately. I’ll come by on Friday to pick up my last check.”
Devin stumbled out a response as I hung up the phone. If he wanted a proper two weeks notice, maybe he should have treated his employees better.
Aiden looked at me, slightly surprised. “I’m coming with you when you go pick up your check. I don’t like that guy.”
“Nobody likes him, Aiden. Hell, I don’t even think he likes himself,” I replied back with a shrug, smirking at his protectiveness. I
had to say that quitting felt really good. I felt a calming relief at the realization that I’d officially worked my last diner shift. It wasn’t the work I didn’t like and most of the customers were really nice. However, working for an asshole like Devin really sucked the joy out of my job.
After a few minutes more, Miss Sidney placed down two sandwiches in front of us. It was a turkey and avocado with lettuce and tomato on white toast. That’s a combination I wouldn’t have ordered for myself, but when I took a bite, the flavors blended together expertly. Miss Sidney had put a bowl of potato chips in between us also to much on and poured us some iced tea. Miss Sidney gave off strong maternal vibes that gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.
When we finished lunch, I looked at my phone again. No more putting it off- I had to call Jillian. I dialed the number and hit the call button. After two rings, she answered.
“Hello?”
