Chapter 1: Crushed hopes & Bad ideas
She was the kind of girl who loved...
Delete, delete, delete.
The type of girl who was...
Delete, delete, delete.
She had always been the kind of person who...
Delete, delete, delete.
Shit. I'm seriously running out of ideas.
I drop back into my chair, pulling out my hair bun that makes my dark locks drop down passed my shoulders. Grabbing my mug, I brought it to my lips and took a cautious sip of the hot chocolate I made hours ago but had turned cold, and run a hand through my hair. As soon as I pull away, I pursed my lips and gaze out into the wide windows, protecting me from the chilly air of July.
My eyes drift back to my computer screen. It's been hours and I still can't come up with anything to write for my next story. This sucks.
My classic ringtone begins to play, vibrating on my desk. I grab it to read my notification.
Wilma: Hey gurl! Better be ready by 2! Coming' to pick ya up with Tin Tin and Yu! How does coffee and cake sound? :)
My lips spread into a wide smile, staring at the message that one of my greatest friends had sent. I can remember that the four of us would chat from nights till early mornings. I guess I can say we're just inseparable.
I mean- I could take a break from frying my brain. So I begin to text her back.
Me: Sounds great! See you soon! Say hi to them for me! :)
I hop off my chair and begin to get ready for another great outing.
●●●●●
Two familiar honks alarmed me. I quickly grab my purse and head downstairs. As soon as I opened the door, I spotted her onyx mustang from a couple feet away. The guys chilling in the back and my favourite girl proudly being the driver of that car for four years. I rush over and hop in the passenger's seat, shutting the door behind me.
"Hey girl!" Wilma smacks me across the back, making me slightly wince at the pain. I thought I've gotten used to it but I guess not. Heh.
"Hey Wil" I give a weak smile, trying to adjust the pain she had just given me.
Wilma can be a bit rough sometimes but I still love her. Six years ago, I met this unique girl who I would then find out that she'd be one of my best friends. She's quite cheery, which makes Tin Tin so done with her on most of the nights we chat.
"Jeez Wil, easy with the greetings" Yu chuckles.
"Good to see you again Yu" I giggle before he gives me his signature wink as the highlighted ends of his bangs covers his forehead likewise.
Speaking of Yu, he has been the longest friend I've ever had. It's been twelve years since we first met where he stopped a couple of girls from bullying me. I can't believe we've become way closer than before. He's pretty funny I would say. Him and Tin Tin combine just makes Wil and I laugh until we turn beet red.
"You might actually kill her one day." Tin Tin says behind my seat, resting his elbow on the door, "But not that I'm complaining"
And you can't forget about this a-hole, he's known me since five years ago. Yup. He's the latest best friend. But manages to make me laugh a ton. Maybe it's because of Yu roasting him twenty-four-seven. But maybe it could also be Tin Tin's sarcasm and sense of humor. Blunt and dead. Classic Tin Tin.
"Nice to see you too, asshole" I grinned devilishly at him.
"The feeling's mutual, b***h" he gives me his monotone voice like any other day, rolling his eyes and facing out the window. I spot the corner of his lips rising.
"So how's Lisaaaa?" I lean back in my seat and gaze at the side mirror of the car to see Tin Tin's taken in by complete surprise.
"Shut up" he grunts.
"Eeek! Who's the lucky lady?" Wil squeals.
"You mean unlucky" I mumble.
"Jeez. You're sooo nice, Mich" Note the a'hole's sarcasm as his eyes meet mine through the side mirror.
"You know you love me, hoe" I give him a small wink, smirking away.
He doesn't say anything back. But instead, he sticks his finger in his mouth, making a fake gag.
"You guys should just date already" Yu chuckles.
"Ew. No! I rather pull a watermelon out of my nose!" I retort.
"I rather s**t out confetti than be with that crazy b***h" Tin Tin glares at Yu, who's laying against the seat in complete chill.
"Hey! Excuse me! That's crazy hot b***h to you" I giggle.
"Crazy smoking hot b***h!" Wil adds on.
"Hell yeah! Lay it here, sister!" I raise my hand at her and she smacks hers against mine, keeping her other hand on the wheel.
"How did we even meet these whacky people?" Yu looks over at Tin Tin.
"The question is, how did we actually put up with this for years?" the grumpy hoe snorts.
"Because you love us both enough to put up with us!" Wil gives them a quick look on her rear-view mirror then brings them back on the road.
"Okay guys! Come on! Just shut up for a few minutes in the car now will ya?" the Tin can groans, rubbing his temples.
We begin to sit in silence, hearing the engine roaring, the sound of pebbles skipping across the road and Wil's bell keychains ringing in a low volume. I begin to fiddle with my thumbs and looked out of my window, gazing at the glorious view of the various colours of houses and the trees swaying in rhythm. Huh. Maybe this peace and quiet ain't so bad after all. I smile and continue to gaze out on the beauty of life.
"So about Lisa," Wil begins.
"Jesus christ." Tin Tin mutters.
●●●●●
"Pumpkin spice latte is the best latte there is out there!" Wil claims.
"No, caramel macchiato is the best!" Yu argues back.
"Jesus christ just shut up and wait for our turn" Tin rolls his eyes, staring at the amount of people in front of us, lining up for their daily dose of coffee.
"Gotta' agree with him on this one" I cross my arms and gave a small smile. Even until now, Wil and Yu are being such children.
When it finally comes to us, the cashier was nowhere to be found. "Uh- excuse me?!" Tin calls out.
"Tin Tin, be patient. Today's pretty busy" I rest my hand on his shoulder, insisting that he lets this one go.
A tanned man in his twenties, comes up behind the counter. Chocolate eyes that could probably melt all the panties in this room just with one daring gaze. "Hi there! Sorry about that, we're running short on staff" he gives that apologetic smile that could possibly arouse all the ladies here. Well at least that's what the look on Wil's face is speaking.
"No worries!" Wil turns all of her attention to the cute barista.
"Shoot me now" Tin mumbles while Yu just snickers away.
"I'll have a pumpkin spice latte" she grins.
"Gentlemen?" he looks back up from the register after typing Wil's order in.
"A tall caramel macchiato for me" Yu shoves his hand in his pocket, fishing out his wallet.
"Iced coffee with milk" grumpy frumpy answers, crossing his arms, "Venti."
I notice the name tag on his uniform while he keys in the guys' drinks.
Sam
Not a bad name. Was thinking more of a Ben or Liam. Or an Austin. But Sam's fine too I guess.
"Now for the pretty lady?" his eyes daringly meet mine as a smile spreads across his face.
"I'll have a hot chocolate please. No cream and small" I cross my arms, ignoring his intense stare.
"Coming right up" he goes back to his neutral self, acting as if nothing happened like- two minutes ago.
"You may have a seat, it'll be served shortly," he says.
We quietly go and find ourselves a table to sit. "Isn't he pretty cute?" Wil props her elbow on the table and rested her chin on her hand, stared over at him, making coffee.
"He's okay I guess" I shrug, pulling a chair up next to Yu.
"Okay?! He's not just okay! He's more than okay!"
"He's hot. So what?" Tin can leans in his chair.
"He's hotter than you'll ever be" Wil rolls her eyes.
Tin Tin gives an irritated pout. "That guy's got nothin' on him"
"You take that back, you mushroom head!" she glares over at him.
"Who are you calling mushroom head, you psychotic weirdo?!" he argues back.
I look over at Yu and he just gives me an amusing smile. Welp- he's not gonna help. Oh boy. Here we go again.
"At least I don't fart in my sleep!" she spits.
"At least I don't eat like a pig!" he squabbles.
"At least I don't sound like a constipated baby!" she growls.
"O-KAYYY GUYS! Enough!" I calm them both down.
Sam comes over to our table and hands us each our drinks. When it came to mine, I smiled gratefully at him. "Enjoy" he winks at me then heads back to the counter. We sit in silence for a bit, breathing into the fresh smell of coffee roaming around the busy shop.
"She's not wrong you know" Yu smirks at Tin Tin.
"For f**k's sake!" he grumbles, face palming himself as we burst into laughter.
They begin to bicker playfully at each other while I giggle to some of their comebacks. I reach for my cup of hot chocolate, looking back down on the table in front of me to see a small napkin under my cup. A few digits were scribbled on along with a bit of writing at the bottom.
Call me! ;)
I was taken back in surprise and I look over to see Sam making drinks. His eyes begin to meet mine. A slow grin forms on his lips and a flirty wink from him comes next.
Did this guy just give me his number?
●●●●●
"And you just threw it away?!" Wil stares at me, wide eyed.
"I mean- yeah. I'm not interested" I lean on the back seat, sitting beside the a-hole because he refuses to sit shotgun if Wil's driving.
"Then you should've given it to me, gurl!" she sighs.
"Imagine the poor guy if you got ahold of his number" Tin says.
"Oh shush, you freaking-"
"GUYS LOOK!" Yu screams, causing Wil to stomp on the breaks.
"Holy s**t dude!" Tin curses.
"What's going on?!" I panic.
"There's a bunch of hot chicks there!" Yu points.
"Are you f*****g kidding me right now?!" Wil groans loudly, dropping her head, making it hit the wheel with a thud.
"Dude! This is your chance!" Yu looks behind at Tin.
"Err... I don't know about this one dude" Tin rubs the back of his neck, giving a nervous smile.
"Nonsense! Come on!" his buddy encourages.
"Yu are you sure about this?" I ask him, "I mean, he's still trying with Lisa and-"
"Haven't you heard of the saying 'the more hot chicks you get, the better chance you'll have'?" Yu gives us a sly smile.
"No," I roll my eyes, "Because there's no such damn thing! You just made that up, dude!"
"I mean," Tin Tin narrows his eyes, thinking deeply, "It wouldn't hurt to try"
"Are you kidding me right now? Remember what happened the last time you gave yourself a 'first impression' with the help of Yu?" Wil laughs in disbelief, crossing her arms.
"That was because I thought she was Japanese!" Yu defends himself.
"Ugh! Whatever! Your decision, Tin Tin. Not mine." I lean back into my chair, minding my own business. But honestly- I'm terrified for him and at the same time- pretty darn curious, not gonna lie.
"You can do it dude!" Yu cheers him on as he begins to get down the car and walk over to the group of girls. A few blondes but mostly brunettes. What is this? California? Just looking at them wearing revealing clothes like that makes me feel even more insecure than high school me. Jesus christ.
We manage to see Tin Tin confidently walking up to them. His back is so leaned back and he's taking huge steps. Wil starts crying of laughter.
"What is he doing?!" she tries to hold in her laughter but fails miserably.
"The moves I taught him" Yu tells us proudly. Wil begins to sink lower into her chair, laughing harder than before. Eventually, I begin to laugh a little too. I feel like such a bad friend.
After two minutes of talking, the ladies begin to look like they've just been insulted. One blondie in a baby blue tube top and ripped black shorts, kicks him in the groin with her black laced boots.
"Holy s**t!" I cover my mouth in utter surprise.
Our buddy clutches onto it, wincing in pain. "Is he okay?!" Yu asks, looking over at me.
"What even- does he look okay to you?!" I scold, "Go check on him dammit! Wilma stop laughing!" I glare at my girlfriend, laughing like mad crazy, no voice coming out of her while clapping repeatedly. While Yu gets out of the car and rushes over to Tin Tin, grabbing him by the arms and slowly helping him into the car. And when I mean helping, he's dragging him across the rocky road. It seems like as if we're committing a crime.
"So bets on getting arrested?" Wil looks over at me.
"What?! No! Wilma!"
"Okay! Okay! Fineee! Buzzkill sheesh" she raises her hands in surrender.
Once he sets Tin down, he lightly taps his face repeatedly. I turn to see Wil recording the scene, making me face palm. "Speak to me, dude! Say anything!" Yu panics, gripping onto his shoulders.
Tin begins to speak but it comes out as a mumble, being unable for us to hear. Yu goes closer to him, asking him "What was that?"
"I am never..." Tin says, "Ever taking advice from you. Again."
