Chapter 6: A strange Visitor

It had been a week since Kael barged into Ivy's life, and while she had begrudgingly adjusted to his presence, things were far from normal. Kael, for his part, had settled in as if he owned the place, and Ivy was quickly learning that fae princes were masters of turning mundane situations into chaotic ones.
She had just finished editing an article for her job when a knock at the door interrupted her focus. Groaning, she got up and opened it, expecting Claire with their usual coffee run. Instead, a tall woman with fiery red hair and piercing green eyes stood in the hallway, her presence radiating an unsettling energy.
“Hello, Ivy Blake,” the woman said with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
“Uh, do I know you?” Ivy asked, gripping the door tighter.
“Not yet,” the woman replied, stepping inside uninvited. Her long emerald cloak swirled around her feet as she surveyed the apartment with disdain. “But I’ve come to remedy that.”
Kael appeared in the living room before Ivy could react, his usual smirk replaced with a wary scowl. “Aisling,” he said coldly.
Aisling’s expression softened, but only slightly. “Kael, darling. You’ve been avoiding me.”
“I’ve had better things to do than entertain my brother’s spies,” Kael shot back, his voice laced with venom.
“Your brother?” Ivy echoed, her confusion mounting. “Who is this?”
Aisling turned to Ivy, her smile returning. “I’m Aisling, envoy of the Winter Court. And you, my dear, have gotten yourself tangled in matters far beyond your understanding.”
“Great,” Ivy muttered. “Another magical royal in my living room. What is this, a fantasy soap opera?”
Kael stepped between them, his voice firm. “What do you want, Aisling?”
“I’ve come to warn you,” Aisling said, her gaze flicking to Ivy. “The ring is more dangerous than you realize. If you’re not careful, it will destroy you both.”
Ivy’s stomach dropped, and for the first time since Kael arrived, she felt the cold grip of fear.
