Chapter 1: The Ring that Changed Everything
Ivy Blake had always considered herself an ordinary woman. As a junior journalist for "The Elysian Times", her days were filled with chasing mundane leads, dodging the glares of her no-nonsense editor, and surviving on caffeine and determination. But that ordinary life took a sharp turn on a crisp Friday evening. It started in the chaos of Elysia’s famed Night Bazaar, a labyrinth of twinkling fairy lights and eclectic stalls crammed with everything from handmade trinkets to dubious "ancient artifacts." Ivy wasn’t supposed to be there—she had planned to spend the evening nursing a cheap bottle of wine and ignoring the stack of unfinished articles on her desk. But her best friend, Claire, insisted on dragging her out. “You need a break, Ivy,” Claire said, dragging her past a stand selling questionable perfumes. “When was the last time you had fun?” “Fun is overrated,” Ivy replied dryly, clutching her coat tightly against the autumn chill. “And this place smells like a mix of regret and expired lavender.” Claire ignored her and veered toward a stall that seemed to shimmer under its string lights. The merchant was an older man with piercing eyes, sitting among an assortment of rings, necklaces, and crystals. “This is it,” Claire announced. “A little sparkle might add some magic to your life.” Ivy rolled her eyes. “Magic won’t get me a promotion.” Still, her gaze fell on a simple silver ring nestled in the corner of the display. It was unassuming, save for the faint iridescent glow emanatm its center. “How much for this one?” she asked, picking it up. The merchant’s eyes narrowed, his voice cryptic. “That one chooses its owner. Twenty dollars.” “Twenty bucks for a glow-in-the-dark gimmick? Pass.” Ivy placed the ring back, but the faint glow pulsed as if calling to her. With a sigh, she handed over a crumpled bill. Later that night, as she slipped the ring on her finger, the air shifted. A breeze—impossible indoors—swirled around her, and with a burst of light, a man appeared in her living room. “Finally,” he said, brushing ash off his shimmering jacket. His sharp, otherworldly features softened into a smirk as he locked eyes with her. “You’re the one who summoned me?”
