Episode1
The hum of Ava’s car engine and the whistling of the mirror were the only sounds as she drove down the winding road toward her new life. Evanston stretched before her, a small town in the countryside. It wasn’t home—at least not yet—but it was away from New York City, far away from him. The divorce papers were signed a year ago, but it still felt like yesterday. Her once perfect marriage to Martin Levine, a billionaire and business tycoon, had crumbled under the weight of lies, loneliness, and his consuming ambition. Ava left their grand mansion behind, in exchange for the quiet unknown. Ahead, the old-fashioned plaza came into view, lined with brick shopfronts and swarming with life. Ava parked her car outside the small, independent art gallery, The Sterling Gallery. The one that had offered her a solo exhibit. After years of creating art in the shadow of Martin’s fame, this exhibit was her chance to reintroduce herself. Ava Jones, not Ava Levine. She stepped inside the gallery, astonished at the familiar scent of turpentine and fresh paint. The walls were clean and new, awaiting her work, and the owner, Lily, greeted her with a warm smile. “Ava! You’re here!” Lily, a gray-haired woman with glasses perched on the tip of her nose, pulled her into a quick hug. “I can’t tell you how excited I am about your show. The town’s already buzzing about it.” Ava forced a smile, her stomach tightening. “I’m just grateful for the opportunity.” Lily waved a hand dismissively. “Your work speaks for itself. Now, let’s get you settled. I’ve reserved that corner for your centerpiece piece—it’s stunning, by the way. The one with the shattered glass?” “Fractured,” Ava corrected gently. “It’s called Fractured.” As Lily led her around the gallery, Ava couldn’t help but feel a glimmer of hope. Maybe here, in this quiet town, she could finally find herself again. But as she unloaded her paintings from her car and set up her stand in the gallery’s workshop, her phone rang on the table. She picked up the phone from the table. Unknown number. Her heart sank. Ava let the call go to voicemail, but a moment later, a text appeared. We need to talk. - Martin. The world seemed to stand still. She stared at the screen. Why was he reaching out now, after months of silence? Lily’s voice startled her. “Everything okay, Ava?” She hurriedly locked her phone, her pulse racing. “Yeah,” she lied. “Everything’s fine.” But it wasn’t. And as the weight of the text settled over her, Ava knew that no matter how far she ran, Martin Levine wasn’t done with her yet. It was the only sound as she drove down the winding road toward her new life. Evanston stretched before her, a small town in the countryside. It wasn’t home—at least not yet—but it was away from New York City, far away from him.
