The Fault Within Us The cursor blinked impatiently on the screen, as if daring me to begin. I titled the page The Fault Within Us, unsure whether I was writing a story or confessing something I didn’t fully understand. The app felt simple, but the thoughts pouring into it were not. I started with a character named Arjun, a man convinced he saw the world clearly. Yet every decision he made was quietly guided by invisible forces. His first impressions became permanent truths, shaping every judgement that followed. When others disagreed, he dismissed them, unconsciously searching only for ideas that echoed his own beliefs. As I wrote, the world around Arjun grew more distorted. He admired people he liked, assuming they could do no wrong, while judging strangers harshly for the smallest mistakes. When things went wrong, he blamed circumstances for himself but blamed character for others. It felt natural to him—logical, even. But something uneasy crept into the story. Arjun wasn’t alone in his flawed thinking. Everyone around him shared similar patterns, each trapped in their own quiet biases. I paused again. The story no longer felt fictional. It felt like a mirror—one that didn’t just reflect Arjun, but me, and perhaps everyone else who believed they saw the truth clearly.
