violet's pov
*present day*
I kept on holding on my father's hand as if it was my last breath I knew when he went out he would go back to his cold self. Diana believes that a man is not supposed to show his feelings or emotions she believes it to be a weakness and my dad always let's her do whatever she wanted without asking her.
I hesitated, searching for the right words because I knew this was risky he might end up closing in on himself like he always does nowadays. I did not even for a fraction love the man that he was becoming but Diana more than loved it. “I feel like we’ve drifted apart since Mom died. And with Diana now… I feel like you don’t see me anymore. Like I don’t matter why are you doing this to me dad?.”
A pained look crossed his face, and he sighed deeply. “Violet, I’m so sorry you feel that way. Losing your mother was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. I know it was hard for you too. I guess I’ve been so caught up in my own grief that I didn’t realize how much I was neglecting you.”
Tears welled up in my eyes. “I miss her so much, Dad. And I miss you too. I want us to be close again, like we used to be.”
He reached across the desk and took my hand, squeezing it gently. “I miss you too, Violet. I’ve been trying to move forward, to find something that distracts me but I ended up deeper in grief more that ever, but I never meant to leave you behind. I’m sorry.”
I felt a glimmer of hope. “I understand that you need to move on, and I’m happy that you’ve found someone who makes you happy. But I need you too, Dad. I need to know that I still matter to you.”His eyes softened and became glassy and there were a lot of emotions dancing around in his eyes that I was unable to read them.
Just as he was about to open his mouth and talk we heard a loud knock on the door we all turned to the door still holding hands and there was her face Diana in all glory smiling. I frowned at her intruding and flinched because of the words that next came from her mouth. "Dinner is ready you should all come and eat it".
