Chapter 1
"I, Alpha Micah Pierce, hereby reject you, Samantha Waters, as Luna of this pack," Micah declared, his voice echoing through the chamber. I stared at Micah, my face flushing with shock and humiliation as I felt the weight of his words.
"Micah, are you truly rejecting me as your Luna?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Why?"
Micah's expression darkened. "Why do you need a reason? It's clear you're unable to fulfill your duties. You're barren, Samantha."
Tears stung my eyes. "Micah, the doctors said—"
"Enough!" he snapped, cutting me off. "I've waited long enough for an heir. We've been married a year, and you've given me nothing."
My heart stuttered as Micah brushed off my efforts, his gaze cold and dismissive. I had been cast aside by the elders of Emberwood Wolves for my weakness, and now, Micah was discarding me as if I were nothing.
“Is it because Eunice?” I whispered.
"Leave Eunice out of this," he said. "She'll give me an heir soon. You're no longer needed."
"Micah, please," I implored, my voice breaking. "Give me another chance. I can still give you an obedient child—"
He scoffed, releasing my hand.
"You're pathetic, Samantha. I've found someone who can give me what I want." His eyes hardened. "I reject you, Samantha Waters. This is the last time we'll speak."
"Micah, wait!" I cried, grabbing his hand. He roughly shook me off, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Are you joking?" I whispered, horrified.
"No," he replied, his voice cold. "I'm serious. I'll take you back to Witchwood Wolves."
"Why are you doing this, Micah?" I asked, tears streaming down my face. "Because Eunice is pregnant? You remember she was the one who turned her back on you when you were struggling!"
"Have you gone mad?" Micah snapped, his eyes blazing with anger. "It's clear you can't give me an heir. You're useless, Samantha. A worthless she-wolf!"
His words cut deep, each one a knife twisting in my heart. I felt tears well up, my reflection in his cold gaze becoming more distorted with each passing moment.
"Stop crying," he said dismissively, not even sparing me a glance. "You're ugly when you cry."
I bowed my head, unable to meet his green eyes. I felt small, insignificant, a mere shadow of the Luna I was meant to be. In my despair, Eunice approached, her presence a stark contrast to my own misery.
Micah's demeanor shifted instantly, his voice softening as he greeted her. I watched, a stranger in my own home, as he displayed a gentleness I had never seen before.
Eunice was lucky, I thought bitterly, to have earned such tenderness from our Alpha. I, on the other hand, was nothing but a placeholder, a Luna in name only.
Micah's affections for Eunice stoked the jealousy within me, a fire burning in my chest as I watched him embrace her warmly. "Honey, how are you?" he greeted, his voice laced with concern.
"I'm just here to deliver this soup," Eunice replied, her smile soft.
"Soup? That sounds wonderful. You've always been such a great cook, unlike..." Micah's gaze flickered to me, his voice trailing off dismissively.
The weight of his words pressed down on me, suffocating and harsh. I felt helpless, a mere pawn in this cruel game.
"Don't act so pathetic, Samantha," Micah sneered. "We both know our marriage was arranged. It's time you accepted that."
I gasped, his words slicing through me. "You can't just dismiss our marriage like that, Micah! We should at least try to make it work."
He scoffed. "I don't need to explain myself to you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have better things to attend to." With that, he walked away, leaving me alone with my pain.
I ran, tears streaming down my face, my heart pounding in my chest. I vented my anger on the trees, my wolf taking control as we tore through the woods. I screamed, the sound echoing around me, raw and primal. Exhausted, I knelt, my body wracked with sobs.
An hour passed, and I knew it was time to return to the Emberwood Wolves Pack house. I nudged my wolf, urging her to turn back, but she growled, her displeasure clear.
"Samantha!" I spun around, finding Eunice standing there, her expression concerned.
"We need to talk about this, Samantha," Eunice said, her voice soft as she approached me.
I looked at her, tears still streaming down my face. "Will you bow before me, Eunice? Acknowledge that I am the legitimate Luna of this pack?"
Eunice reached out, grabbing my hand. "Samantha, please forgive me. I never meant to hurt you."
I pulled my hand away, my eyes narrowing. "Didn't you? You've been playing the part of the obedient beta a little too well, don't you think?"
Eunice sighed. "I was following orders, Samantha. I had no choice but to—"
"To sleep with Micah while his wife was struggling to keep the pack from bankruptcy?" I spat, my voice shaking with anger.
"I can explain—"
"What's there to explain, Eunice? You've always had a way with men. I suppose congratulations are in order. You've become Micah's special Luna."
Eunice groaned, clutching her stomach as she leaned against the Burmese rosewood tree behind her. I stood over her, my chest heaving with rage and pain.
"Why are you pushing me, Samantha?" Eunice groaned, her voice laced with pain. "Why are you trying to hurt me?"
Her words brought forth a fresh wave of tears, and I found myself at a loss for words. I hated myself for not being enough, for not being the perfect Luna Micah deserved.
"Samantha... please forgive me," Eunice pleaded, reaching out for my hand.
"I never would have said anything if I didn't love Micah," I sobbed. "He saved me from the hell of Emberwood Wolves. But why are you here, Eunice? What's your role in all this?"
"Samantha, this is all Micah's plan. If he doesn't—" Eunice started, but I cut her off.
"Stop acting, Eunice. I didn't push you that hard. You're faking your miscarriage."
"My stomach really hurts, Samantha," she whimpered.
"Oh, God, I'm so sorry, Eunice. I didn't mean to hurt you or your baby. I was just—"
"SAMANTHA!" Someone screamed, his voice echoing through the woods.
