Chapter 48
They could see a commotion at the hospital when the three of them arrived in Poolin's squad car. Two local police cars were stopped behind the ambulance. Keplar and Knutson bounded out and found the officers talking to the ambulance driver.
Knutson held out his badge and asked the officers, “What's going on?”
Addressing Knutson, one of the officers answered, “One of the men in the ambulance was taken away, by force, by two guys who then drove off.”
“Which one?”
“Not the Sheriff.”
“Why aren't you going after them?”
“We're about to. They headed south in a tan sedan.”
Keplar rushed back to the driver, “Where's the other guy you transported?”
“They brought him to the operating room. They're working on him now.”
One of the police cars sped off with two officers inside.
