Keplar woke with a start covered with sweat again. Instead of jumping right up as he usually did, he fluffed the pillow up and lay staring at the ceiling wondering when he could get back to the peaceful life he had just a few weeks ago. The thought suddenly struck him that if the first murder hadn't taken place, Rose might not be in his life. Turning on his side so he could see out the window at the dawning of a new day, he wondered how one unexpected incident, as tragic as it was, could lead to such a life changing outcome. At this point he could not imagine going on without her.
